Driv-in Movie Theater

Nov. 22 / Eakin’s Oval / Free if on-foot

The holiday season is coming and The Awesome Fest is hoping to make a new tradition in Philadelphia this year. They will be hosting the city’s first ever drive-in movie theater at Eakin’s Oval, located directly in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. There’s only one more chance to join in the festivities. The last double-feature of the year will be on Friday, Nov. 22. It will feature the classics “Planes, Trains, & Automobiles” and “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.” This event is perfect for all ages, especially college students on a budget. For just $19.33 per vehicle, people will be able to experience two of the most classic holiday movies in a whole new way. However, anyone on foot is free. In addition to the features, food trucks will be parked around the Oval selling festive-themed food.

Winter Beerfest

Nov. 23 / 23rd Street Armory / $40

Winter Beerfest: On Nov. 23, the 23rd Street Armory will be hosting Philadelphia’s annual Winter Beerfest. Customers 21 and over will be able to enjoy a large selection of beer from over 20 vendors. There are two sessions, one in the afternoon and another in the evening, both events cost $40 admission.

Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival

Now until Nov. 23 / Varies / $6 with Student ID

The Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival: Expand your film knowledge with the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival. This event will feature short and full-length films featuring Asian Americans in front of and behind the camera. This is last weekend to check out this interesting genre of film and to learn more about the culture. This event has two locations, the International House Philadelphia and the Asian Arts Initiative.

Dinosaurs Unearthed

Now until March 30 / The Academy of Natural Sciences/General Admission plus $5

This exhibit brings life-size, animatronic dinosaurs to the Academy of Natural Sciences in Logan Square. Some of the “recreations” include the T-rex, velociraptor, stegosaurus and more. Exhibit-goers will have a chance to control the dinosaurs themselves as well as explore a “dig site.” Cost is general admission at $20 and an additional $5 for nonmembers or $3 for members.
