The men’s basketball team used its best defensive effort of the season to defeat Dayton, 49-41. Temple improves to 23-5 overall and 11-2 in the conference. Next up is La Salle on Sunday.

Owls outlast Saint Joseph’s in overtime

Sophomore guard Ramone Moore scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed a season-high nine rebounds in Temple’s 75-67 overtime win against Saint Joseph’s. Moore’s layup at the end of regulation sent the game into OT.

Guard/forward Lindsay Kimmel transferred from Temple to Villanova after her sophomore season last year. Kimmel, who averaged 5.3 points, will sit out this season due to NCAA rules but will bring her 3-point shooting to the Main Line in the fall.

Bench comes up big at Fordham

The men’s basketball team started off slowly against Fordham, a team that had lost its last 10 games and has just two wins this season, but the No. 16 Owls rebounded and won, 62-45.

With the exception of a 32-point loss to then-No. 1 Kansas Jan. 2, the men’s basketball team has won 11 of its last 12 games and earned a Top 25 ranking for the first time since November 2001.

Owls hold off Penn at Palestra

The men’s basketball team defeated Penn, 60-45, Wednesday in a Big 5 game at the Palestra. The Owls play Massachusetts next Jan. 16 in a doubleheader.
