I cannot imagine how my life would have turned out had it not been for The Temple News. But I do know this: It would have been significantly – if not entirely – different had I not joined the staff my first day at Temple in September 1974.
I was thrilled and honestly a little bit surprised when I was invited to join the staff at The Temple News. I had no idea what it would entail, but I hadn’t taken part in many activities on campus, other than playing roller hockey my freshman year.
A long time ago in a galaxy… Oops, I didn’t mean to start with a plug about my current employer!
It’s just that my time at The Temple News was a long time ago, and eventually, if a bit circuitously, it led me to Lucasfilm Ltd. and my own little bit of Star Wars heaven.
I never aspired to become the editor-in-chief of The Temple News. As an unassuming freshman in 2005, I did what I was told. I wrote whatever the editors needed, covering topics from SEPTA to ramen noodles.
This year marks the 88th anniversary of the Temple News. It is being celebrated with a reunion and panel discussion this weekend. Former writers, photographers and editors look back at their time at The Temple News.
It appears that the pervasive nature of Philadelphia tax and spend-city politics has worked its way into Temple Student Government. Just as Mayor Nutter is getting ready to make it rain with more hard-earned tax dollars some students at Temple are trying to rally everyone on campus around a similar cause.…
