Cowden recognizable despite missing uniform

Posted on 27 November 2007 by Jeff Appelblatt

If the volleyball team didn’t have so many freshmen, middle blocker Jacqueline Cowden would have to suspect her teammates of playing rookie jokes on her.
Before the Atlantic Ten tournament, the business major was sick, and coach Bob Bertucci had her nap instead of practicing. He assured her someone would wake her.
That never happened.
While she was […]

Posted on 20 November 2007 by Jeff Appelblatt

Volleyball coach Bob Bertucci has had no problem leading his team to the Atlantic Ten Conference tournament. In fact, the only year the Owls were not in tournament play under Bertucci was in 1995 - his first season as coach.
The problem has been winning the A-10 Tournament, a feat the Owls have not accomplished since […]

Freshmen receiving “Baptism by fire”

Posted on 23 October 2007 by Pete Dorchak

In coach Bob Bertucci’s 13 seasons at Temple, he has never experienced a season like this.
The Owls have posted 20 or more wins in nine seasons and have earned four NCAA tournament bids, reaching the Sweet 16 in 2002.

Besides, two out of three isn’t bad.
But maybe giving up was too easy.
The Owls put it all on the line during the deciding fifth […]

Posted on 09 October 2007 by Jeff Appelblatt

The volleyball team entered the weekend with a lot to prove. Instead, Atlantic Ten Conference foes Dayton and Xavier proved that they could outplay the Owls.
Coach Bob Bertucci knew his team was going up against two of the strongest teams in the A-10, but said he expected more consistency from his players.
After being swept - […]

Win evens conference record

Posted on 02 October 2007 by Jennifer Reardon

Conference games.
They are the crucial, make-or-break part of a team’s season. Win a lot of them and you can punch your ticket to postseason play. Lose, and you’ll get left behind in the dust.
For the volleyball team, a two-game road trip to George Washington and Charlotte last weekend offered them the opportunity to open Atlantic […]

Tourneys prove difficult

Posted on 25 September 2007 by Pete Dorchak

Bob Bertucci knew exactly what he was doing when he made this season’s volleyball schedule.
The coach figured opening the season with five tournaments would be a learning experience for his freshmen-laden team.
“We knew we had to play a very tough non-conference schedule to be ready for the Atlantic Ten [Conference],” Bertucci said.
The problem was the […]

Volleyball newcomers set eyes on A-10 East

Posted on 04 September 2007 by Anthony Stipa

Teams tabbed to contend for titles typically own a common trait: experience. That’s not the case for the volleyball team this season.
The Owls, picked in an Atlantic Ten Conference coaches’ poll to finish first in the East Division, return just four players from last year’s squad, which finished 16-14 and captured the A-10 East crown. […]
