The Office of Sustainability on Temple University’s campus hosted the third annual Campus Sustainability Day at the Bell Tower on Main Campus from 11 a.m to 2 p.m on Oct. 20, 2010. The day brought together student organizations, outside organizations, departments and offices as part of an outreach and engagement event by the Office of Sustainability.  This event included a sustainability pledge, SEPTA hybrid bus, micro-turbine, recycling displays, student organization sign-ups, swap/reuse table and electric vehicles.

The goal of the event was to create awareness on Temple’s campus about how the Temple community can participate in the initiative to be a sustainable university.  Featured at the event was Temple’s own Verde Styles, recent grant recipients of $25K from the Pepsi Refresh Project to continue their sustainable business strategy of planting a tree with every purchase made.

TTN Slideshow: Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear in Washington, D.C.

Slideshow by TTN photographer Rachael Cerrotti

More than two-hundred thousand people flooded the National Mall in Washington DC on Oct. 30 for John Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear. The satirists’ rally brought together a variety of people from across the country with the same fed-up mentality over the political situation in the United States. In the spirit of Halloween, many came in costumes (most being political). Other participants marched around, proud to hold their homemade signs that reflected some of their most frustrated feelings over happenings in American government. Overall, the mentality of the crowd remained peaceful amongst the participants. People were in good spirits and seemed relieved that so many people in the country shared their aggravated emotions.
