So it sounds like the overwhelming majority of this identity group is comfortable at Temple, and for the most part has met with indifference. That’s pretty much all anyone can ask for – to be left alone to pursue your own academic success regardless of sexual preference.

Temple’s student retention rate is 88%. That means that 12% of the entire student body actually leaves. A lot more seriously think about leaving than actually leave. So the real question is why is the general student population more likely to consider leaving Temple than the GLBT community at only 16%?

Has there ever been a “Task Force” that has ever concluded anything other than “there’s more work to be done”?
Not as long as there is money to spend, and advocacy is the goal rather than tolerance! Why else would you segregate GLBT into a “community”? Separate but Equal may be an ill-advised objective. I thought that didn’t work.

To plant is better than vacant. Urban lots can be utilized temporarily while it is not yet used by the owner. Plants that can easily be removed or harvested are best for some urban vacant lots. Make a farm while there is space for the unexpected future needs.

click here, product reviews, visit now
Senior citizens who have not commenced taking diet dietary supplements and vitamin nutritional supplements should act correct now. Those people who are aged may possibly get infectious a lot more readily, which may probably develop into illness. In no way overlook that dietary health supplements will also be preventative items and it's hardly ever as well late to start out using them. There are various vitamins and nutritional supplements focused with the elderly. Using the right vitamin health supplements - especially individualized vitamins - inside the ideal way and at correct time could assist you to stay a healthier and happier everyday living.

When and where does this club meet? I would like to host the screening of two documentaries, EARTHLINGS and VEGUCATED. For having the screening of those two movies, I will bring food and desserts.

I would also be glad to give vegan cooking instructions. I look forward to hearing from you.

i've been coming to this place for over 5 years and really considered this to be a great spot with great people. Always brought in friends from in and out of town and tried to bring in customers to support this place. I, myself, spent over 7 years bartending in Philadelphia bars and restaurants so I understand how important it is to support local places so they stay open. In my 10 year living in the city I have never through id actually be posting something to discourage people from going to eat and drink at a place but this is exactly why i'm writing this post which is actually the first time i'm ever writing a review on yelp.
Over the last few months I have been treated extremely rudely by an upstairs bartender by the name of Kate...if you have gone there i'm sure you have seen her, she is always there on Sat night at the upstairs bar. Blonde hair, a bit over weight, and constantly looking mean. I have no idea what I have ever done to her but she has always been extremely rude to me and anyone I had with me. Later I realized it wasn't just me but mostly everyone that comes in contact with her. I'm not a rude or drunk person and always tip over 20% when i go out since I was the person behind the bar for so many years. After going to this place almost every Sunday for the last 2 years and bringing a large group of people with me where we normally spend around 1,000 dollars together you would imagine the restaurant management and owners would appreciate that. Especially since Sunday is a slow day for many places down town. Well not at Standard Tap!!!! Customers here do not have any say or respect and really they can care less whether you come in or not, as far as they are concerned if you do not take the bad treatment then go somewhere else.
This is really appalling especially in such an economy.
I decided to do the adult thing and write an email to the management explaining what has been going on and how I feel quite wronged and treated badly by someone who works for them. Thinking that a manager who cares about the business and customers of the establishment she/he works for would care and want to resolve such an issue. WAS I WRONG OR WHAT!!! Instead of asking me any questions or trying to resolve the problem, the manager ( i do not believe even told the owners the issue) emailed me back telling me, well if i don't like it then i'm not welcome and my friends are not welcome to Standard Tap. All i can say i how appalling and sad for this restaurant's owners because they will not be able to stay in business in such an economy if their staff treats their customers in such a manner. I can say that now I feel a duty to let other Philadelphia residents know that such bad treatment exists and they should not support a place that will take their money and will not care how they get treated.

I'm sorry to be bothering you about this. I tried to take the high road on this and then was told by one of the Standard Tap employees that I should email the management on your website regarding my complain. I did that and the response I received from your manager was appalling. She emailed back and told me that due to my complaint that i'm no longer welcome. She could have asked to talk about this and try to work something out where if Kate ( the bartender I have an issue with would apologize and I would gladly apologize to her to resolve any issue and everything would have went back to normal) However, I never realized that a whim of a bartender over-rides any complaint of a patron who has been coming into your establishment for over 5 years and has spent thousands of dollars and constantly brought in more customers on a weekly basis. I'm spent over 7 years bartending in Philadelphia bars and restaurants, anywhere from high end to dives, and have never seen such bad treatment to the patrons of a place. I thought may be reaching out to the owner's might have some difference, not even for me to come back to Standard Tap, which i certainly do not feel welcome or comfortable with doing after such treatment but hopefully it might make a difference for someone else.

I've been coming to Standard Tap for over 5 years and really considered this to be a great spot with great people. Always brought in friends from in and out of town and tried to bring in customers to support this place. My little sister grew up with Beck and they are best friends so I started coming in to show support since I lived around the corner. over the years i have become friends with most of your bartenders such as Beck, Brian, Ron, Branden, and Eric who works in your kitchen and they are all amazing! If you have any questions on my character any one of them will tell them that I'm a good person, not someone who is rude to staff or gets badly drunk. I always tip way over 20% and bring in large groups of people on a regular basis of whom I made regular customers for your business. I, myself, spent over 7 years bartending in Philadelphia bars and restaurants so I understand how important it is to support local places so they stay open.
Over the last few months I have been treated extremely rudely by an upstairs bartender by the name of Kate. I have no idea what I have ever done to her but she has always been extremely rude to me ( if looking back over the years then pretty much always since i've started coming in to standard tap) and anyone I had with me. Later I realized it wasn't just me but mostly everyone that comes in contact with her. After coming to Standard Tap every Sunday for the last 2 years and bringing a large group of people with me ( at least ten) where we normally spend around 1,000 dollars all together over the coarse of the day since we would spend usually between 1pm and 6 pm at the upstairs bar i would think that we were someone who should be treated a a good customer. I created this Sunday activity to get my friends together and always thought Standard Tap was a great place to go to since I love your food and atmosphere. The few times that we ended up staying past 6 pm on a Sunday or came in on a Sat ended our evenings in such a bad taste in our mouth with Kate coming on the shift and treating us so badly. I would think bringing such large business to a restaurant on a Sunday was a good thing especially since Sunday is a slow day for many places down town. On the last incident we were getting ready to leave a few months ago as Kate was coming on her shift ( we normally left as fast as possible as she was coming in) I was sitting at the bar waiting for my check while i was on my phone. I watched 2 guys trying to order a drink for 2 women that were in my group. I have then observed Kate loudly....stating to Cody..."i'm not serving those bitches") loudly enough for the whole bar to hear. At the time I was on my cell phone and was so appalled by this I didn't even know what to do since I've never saw such action taken by a bartender who is supposed to be in the servicing industry. Those two women were not drunk and have only been at the time for 1 hour at the tap and did absolutely nothing to offend Kate since she only came on her shift 30 minutes prior to that incident. i have never in my years of going to any place in Philadelphia have seen such actions by a bartender which is completely unacceptable. Those 2 females ( who are both actually bartenders ), i have then watched complain to the manager, i think her name was Eden, who did absolutely nothing to apologize or correct such action.
I think as a business owner you have the right to know what goes on in your bar and how a certain bartender is making you loose many, many customers and a lot of money in business.
Instead of asking me any questions or trying to resolve the problem, the manage emailed me back telling me, well if i don't like it then i'm not welcome and my friends are not welcome to Standard Tap. All i can say i how appalling and sad this is because Philadelphia is a small community where most people in the city know each other, and people in the restaurant community want to support each other. How can a place stay in business in such an economy if their staff treats their customers in such a manner. You can respond to me if you would like.

I agree with Interested in Kinesiology all the way! I love science period! But to become a physical therapist is not easy work. Some Pre-Pts take the kinesiology course to become a physical therapist and that is not easy work & they make great money so who cares what they had to take to get there! To be in college, and to be doing something with your life period is GREAT!

At Quest we are known as the industry leaders of self-directed IRA administration and education. We have no products to sell you, thus we have no conflicts of interest of how you would like to invest your retirement funds. You make all the investment decisions and Quest IRA provides excellent education along with superb customer service and account administrations. Not all self-directed IRA administrators and trustees are the same! At Quest IRA we practice what we preach and are active investors with our own IRAs and 401(k)s which allows us to educate from a place of intelligence and experience when it comes to alternative or non-traditional investments in self-directed IRAs, self-directed 401(k)s and other self-directed qualified plans.

Wow, Jacob, you are totally creepy. In the process of calling out one generalization this article makes, you perpetuate so much other male B.S. like mansplaining, typing like a wannabe academic windbag, stalkerishly inserting the fact that you have a mutual friend with the writers, and unnecessarily voicing your opinion of the way they look. Dude, no one asked you. That em-dash

As a pediatric cancer specialist at Washington University in St. Louis, I've seen too many times the devastation and heartbreak that children's cancer brings to our world. Many, many people are working hard to understand why these wonderful children are suddenly and inexplicably taken from us through no fault of their own and nothing they've done. I stand up and applaud all of the courageous and caring people out there, like Meghan, who look for any way they can help. Every bit of it counts, and stories such as these bring tremendous hope to the children and parents who spend their days in the hospital. You have no idea. Thank you Meghan! And thank you to anyone who contributed during this event. I've known and met Paul Matthews and had the pleasure having our genetic research supported by the Eli Seth Matthews Leukemia Foundation. It's a privilege to be associated with such dedicated and caring people. Please keep up your efforts and don't lose hope.

I appreciate the discussion of this issue. I think it leads to another issue, though, and that is the general breakdown of standards in the educational system. For example, for years rampant grade inflation has been documented, but we all ignore what this signifies, namely that students and faculty alike are often not being held to account. Moreover, I suspect that the proliferation of custom paper writing is fueled by the proliferation of online classes. It is easier to cheat when you never even come face to face with your instructors. And then there are the for-profit colleges, which really take students for a ride! But due to the deep pockets in that industry and corresponding well-funded lobbying, it's not likely we'll see any reform on that front. Really, custom papers and such, well they fit right into the current educational and political climate. As for my situation, I was a professor in the Russian program, not the English department. This is why I cannot even get a job teaching composition at the local community college, which, in turn, is why I began experimenting with custom paper writing in the first place.

For all the uniformed and naive Temple students that protested against Spencer, Geller, and Darwish, are you at least aware of some of their backgrounds. Do you know anything about Noonie Darwish? Below is her Wikipedia biography. I think you'd be surprised to learn she's not radical at all, just a Muslim woman and daughter of a former Egyptian General whose had first hand dealings with the abuses of Islam. Read below.

Nonie Darwish (Arabic: نوني درويش‎) (born 1949[1][2]) is an Egyptian-American human rights activist, and founder of Arabs For Israel, and is Director of Former Muslims United. She is the author of two books: Now They Call Me Infidel; Why I Renounced Jihad for America, Israel and the War on Terror and Cruel and Usual Punishment: The Terrifying Global Implications of Islamic Law. Darwish's speech topics cover human rights, with emphasis on women's rights and minority rights in the Middle East. Born in Egypt, Darwish is the daughter of an Egyptian Army lieutenant general, who was called a "shahid" by the Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser,[3] after being killed in a targeted killing by the Israeli Defense Forces in 1956. Darwish blames "the Middle Eastern Islamic culture and the propaganda of hatred taught to children from birth" for his death. In 1978, she moved with her husband to the United States, and converted to Christianity there. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, she has written on Islam-related topics.[3]
Contents [hide]
1 Biography

Nonie Darwish was born in 1949 in Cairo, Egypt.[1][2][4] Her family moved to Gaza in the 1950s when her father, Colonel Mustafa Hafez, was sent by Gamal Abdel Nasser to serve as commander of the Egyptian Army Intelligence in Gaza, which was under supervision of Egypt. Hafez founded the fedayeen who launched raids across Israel's southern border, that between 1951 and 1956, killed many Israelis, the majority civilians.[2][5] In July 1956 when Nonie was eight years old, her father was killed by a mail bomb in an operation by the Israeli Defense Forces.[2][5].[4] This became the first targeted killing carried out by the IDF.[citation needed] The assassination was a response to Fedayeen's attacks, making Darwish's father a shahid.[6][7] During his speech announcing the nationalization of the Suez Canal, Nasser vowed that all of Egypt would take revenge for Hafez's death. Darwish claims that Nasser asked her and her siblings, "Which one of you will avenge your father's death by killing Jews?"[8]
Darwish explains:
"I always blamed Israel for my father's death, because that's what I was taught. I never looked at why Israel killed my father. They killed my father because the fedayeen were killing Israelis. They killed my father because when I was growing up, we had to recite poetry pledging jihad against Israel. We would have tears in our eyes, pledging that we wanted to die. I speak to people who think there was no terrorism against Israel before the '67 war. How can they deny it? My father died in it."[9][10]
After the death of her father, her family moved back to Cairo, where she attended Catholic high school and then the American University in Cairo, earning a BA in Sociology/Anthropology. She then worked as an editor and translator for the Middle East News Agency, until emigrating to the United States in 1978 with her husband, ultimately receiving United States citizenship. After arriving in the US, she became a Christian and began attending a non-denominational evangelical church. About a year after the September 11, 2001 attacks, Darwish began writing columns critical of Islamic extremism and the silence of moderate Muslims.
Asked what can be done to encourage more moderate Muslims to speak out, Darwish answers:
"After 9/11 very few Americans of Arab and Muslim origin spoke out... Muslim groups in the U.S. try to silence us and intimidate American campuses who invite us to speak. I often tell Muslim students that Arab Americans who are speaking out against terrorism are not the problem, it’s the terrorists who are giving Islam a bad name. And what the West must do is ask the politically incorrect questions and we Americans of Arab and Muslim origin owe them honest answers.[3]
Darwish is the current Director of Former Muslims United. In a letter sent from that organization to Muslim leaders, Darwish said:
"We send this letter to you to be received by September 25, 2009. On that date 220 years ago in 1789, the U.S. Congress passed the Bill of Rights. This is a fitting date to put our pledge to the world...As founders of Former Muslims United, we now pledge our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor to achieve for former Muslims their unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We claim these rights as the foundation for our right to freedom from Shariah. We urge you to join us.[11]
She often says, "Just because I am pro- Israel does not mean I am anti- Arab, its just that my culture is in desperate need for reformation which must come from within”.[10]
She has spoken on numerous college campuses including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Princeton, Brown, Tufts, Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Oxford, Cornell, UCLA, NYU, Virginia Tech, UC Berkeley and several others. She has also spoken in the United States Congress, the House of Lords and the European Parliament.
[edit]Views on Islam

Darwish believes Islam is an authoritarian ideology that is attempting to impose on the world the norms of seventh-century culture of the Arabian Peninsula. She writes that Islam is a "sinister force" that must be resisted and contained. She remarks that it is hard to "comprehend that an entire religion and its culture believes God orders the killing of unbelievers." She claims that Islam and Sharia of forming a retrograde ideology that adds greatly to the world's stock of misery.[12]
She claims the Qur'an is a text that is "violent, incendiary, and disrespectful" and says that barbarities such as brutalization of women, the persecution of homosexuals, honor killings, the beheading of apostates and the stoning of adulterers come directly out of the Qur'an.[12]
[edit]Arabs for Israel

Main article: Arabs For Israel
Darwish is a strong supporter of Israel, and has founded the group "Arabs for Israel",.[4][13] composed of ethnic Arabs and Muslims who respect and support the State of Israel, welcome a peaceful and diverse Middle East, reject suicide terrorism as a form of Jihad, and promote constructive self-criticism and reform in the Arab/Muslim world."

How do you like that? "Constructive self-criticism." You think you might be capable of that in your own approach? Do you not think that this woman who has an extraordinary resume of experience should be allowed to speak?

The problem is that so many of you are young and naive and don't seem to have the introspective capacity to be self-critical.

Look, I don't think any religion is perfect. (Though there is a preponderance of evidence to suggest that Islamic societies are by far the biggest abuser of human rights and overall cruelty. Christianity was running a close second in barbarism before they got their act together and embraced secularism.)

But at least many of us have the capacity to be self-critical of our own religion and respect other's who are critical. We have many intellectuals who are very critical about the world's major religions, Christianity and Judaism. The problem is, we've yet to see the same amount of moderate voices among Muslims.

In the Middle East, I suppose this is the result of societies and countries that have state run media. Where freedom of expression does not exist. Where you can be silenced or jailed or beaten or worse for expressing a view that is counter to the state.

But what's your excuse?

You react like children by screaming and complaining? Is it that you just don't possess the tools and knowledge to present an intellectually challenging retort and argument? You're college students - where's the intellectual rigor? Where is the open mindedness? Instead of shouting, why not listen and then ask challenging questions or ask to make your own presentation in response?

Finally, the fact of the matter is, you and your mob are dead wrong when you suggest that this group of speakers preach "hate." I think you have a biased and naive view of what hate is. And you cheapen and lesson the meaning of the word by doing so. I think you need to learn the difference and nuances that exist between "hate speech" and criticism.

Darwish is the current Director of Former Muslims United. In a letter sent from that organization to Muslim leaders, Darwish said:
“We send this letter to you to be received by September 25, 2009. On that date 220 years ago in 1789, the U.S. Congress passed the Bill of Rights. This is a fitting date to put our pledge to the world…As founders of Former Muslims United, we now pledge our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor to achieve for former Muslims their unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We claim these rights as the foundation for our right to freedom from Shariah. We urge you to join us.[11]
She often says, “Just because I am pro- Israel does not mean I am anti- Arab, its just that my culture is in desperate need for reformation which must come from within”.[10]
She has spoken on numerous college campuses including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Princeton, Brown, Tufts, Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Oxford, Cornell, UCLA, NYU, Virginia Tech, UC Berkeley and several others. She has also spoken in the United States Congress, the House of Lords and the European Parliament.
[edit]Views on Islam

Darwish believes Islam is an authoritarian ideology that is attempting to impose on the world the norms of seventh-century culture of the Arabian Peninsula. She writes that Islam is a “sinister force” that must be resisted and contained. She remarks that it is hard to “comprehend that an entire religion and its culture believes God orders the killing of unbelievers.” She claims that Islam and Sharia of forming a retrograde ideology that adds greatly to the world’s stock of misery.[12]
She claims the Qur’an is a text that is “violent, incendiary, and disrespectful” and says that barbarities such as brutalization of women, the persecution of homosexuals, honor killings, the beheading of apostates and the stoning of adulterers come directly out of the Qur’an.[12]
[edit]Arabs for Israel

Main article: Arabs For Israel
Darwish is a strong supporter of Israel, and has founded the group “Arabs for Israel”,.[4][13] composed of ethnic Arabs and Muslims who respect and support the State of Israel, welcome a peaceful and diverse Middle East, reject suicide terrorism as a form of Jihad, and promote constructive self-criticism and reform in the Arab/Muslim world.”

How do you like that? “Constructive self-criticism.” You think you might be capable of that in your own approach? Do you not think that this woman who has an extraordinary resume of experience should be allowed to speak?

The problem is that so many of you are young and naive and don’t seem to have the introspective capacity to be self-critical.

Look, I don’t think any religion is perfect. (Though there is a preponderance of evidence to suggest that Islamic societies are by far the biggest abuser of human rights and overall cruelty. Christianity was running a close second in barbarism before they got their act together and embraced secularism.)

But at least many of us have the capacity to be self-critical of our own religion and respect other’s who are critical. We have many intellectuals who are very critical about the world’s major religions, Christianity and Judaism. The problem is, we’ve yet to see the same amount of moderate voices among Muslims.

In the Middle East, I suppose this is the result of societies and countries that have state run media. Where freedom of expression does not exist. Where you can be silenced or jailed or beaten or worse for expressing a view that is counter to the state.

But what’s your excuse?

You react like children by screaming and complaining? Is it that you just don’t possess the tools and knowledge to present an intellectually challenging retort and argument? You’re college students – where’s the intellectual rigor? Where is the open mindedness? Instead of shouting, why not listen and then ask challenging questions or ask to make your own presentation in response?

Finally, the fact of the matter is, you and your mob are dead wrong when you suggest that this group of speakers preach “hate.” I think you have a biased and naive view of what hate is. And you cheapen and lesson the meaning of the word by doing so. I think you need to learn the difference and nuances that exist between “hate speech” and criticism.

There are also places to recycle computers, but some of them charge you. A better option I feel for recycling old computers, is to sell them on ebay, or give them to a geek you know (remove the harddrive). This way you can make some money, and someone will get good use out of it. I personally love old computers, so many parts in it I can easily use in one of my inventions. I did notice a stock pile of old brooms and mops in my basement, and I'm not sure how to dispose of them properly. They have metal so should be able to get recycled but I don't think they can. Also, if you use a Swiffer mop, don't use the one time use pads, but buy a micro-fiber cloth for it. I got some good hints on http://www.swifferreviews.com. I hope I helped someone, and someone can answer my question about disposing mops and brooms.

Not angry. Not upset. Just tired of reading these long rationalizations for identity based policies. It seems like there is a never-ending parade of “victims” seeking preferential treatment while they bemoan being treated differently.

If sexual preference is a personal matter, what business is it of anyone else? Certainly no business of a college or university! I’m not even sure what “retaliation” against someone’s sexuality would be. I honestly don’t care what someone’s preference is. Isn’t that the goal?

I was attempting to illustrate how absurd it is to make the case that we NEED to separate out and identify some segments of our population. That IS the definition of segregation.
I thought segregation was bad.
