Police, fire and rescue units responded to an alarm at Beury Hall on Sunday night to investigate a potential chemical leak, blocking off 13th Street from Montgomery Avenue to Norris Street for more than an hour before issuing an all clear.

At 8:25 p.m., Temple police responded to a fire alarm in a first floor lab and found a discolored fluid coming from the ceiling, said Deputy Director of Campus Safety Services Charlie Leone. As a precaution, the Philadelphia Fire Department’s Hazmat team was called.

Two men in Hazmat suits entered the building at approximately 9:40 p.m., and exited nearly 15 minutes later. There was no sense of urgency among any of the fire and rescue crews and a police source later said that it was a false alarm. The fluid was found to be water leaking from a hose on the second floor, Leone said.

At least a dozen fire and rescue trucks lined 13th Street between Montgomery Avenue and Norris Street and hordes of emergency officials were seen standing along the block.

Emergency officials issued an all clear at approximately 10 p.m. and the area was quickly cleared.
