Now that next year’s executive office has been elected, TSG is turning its focus to filling remaining positions.

Temple Student Government began taking nominations for cabinet and General Assembly positions at the meeting yesterday, April 9. Candidates could nominate themselves or be nominated by at least two people.

“This will be the first year ever, under the new constitution that we passed last year, that we’ve elected cabinet members,” Colin Saltry, TSG student body president, said.

Candidates for the TSG directors of the academic affairs, campus life and diversity, grounds and facilities committees, as well as for TSG auditor general, were all current members of the TSG cabinet.

Candidates did not need to be present at the meeting to accept their nominations, as was the case for TSG Elections Commissioner Shanee Satchell, who was nominated for director of the academic affairs committee.

Some declined their nominations. Ari Jones, of Temple NAACP, was nominated for three positions and declined all. Jones has been vocal at GA meetings throughout the year.

TSG Chief of Staff David Lopez, also TSG student body president-elect, reminded the GA that candidates could also nominate themselves “from the floor” at the meeting on April 16, during which candidates will each give a two-minute speech before votes are cast.

Saltry gave a brief address regarding last week’s elections for TSG executive officers, and spoke of the importance of director positions in the organization.

“These are serious jobs, and the fate of student government and student representation…is really going to be in your hands,” Saltry said.
