Carol Abromas, a 63-year-old local resident, has something to say about the Philadelphia Archdiocese priests accused of sexual abuse.
“They should keep those hands off those kids. [They’re] there to educate them,” she said. “They’re not there to fondle with them. It’s as simple as that.”
Abromas, who said she was baptized Catholic, attends a church in the Mt. Airy, Pa., area regularly.
“I go to church, I believe, I’m a believer,” Abromas said. “And [priests in] the Catholic church, they use religion to get to the kids and rape these boys and stuff, and they cover [it] up.”
“The clergymen, they’re not like they should be,” Abromas added. “When [priests] commit a crime, instead of punishing them, they send them to another church, and they do the same crime to someone else. So what’s the difference?”
As far as punishment for the alleged offenders, Abromas recommended the priests receive jail time.
“Sure they should [go to prison],” Abromas said. “Why shouldn’t they? That’s rape. In any aspect, whether a girl or boy, that’s still rape.”
