Boxing superstars ‘Golden Boy’ Oscar De La Hoya and ‘Pretty Boy’ Floyd Mayweather exchanged verbal barbs during a press conference held at the Liacouras Center last Wednesday to promote their highly anticipated super welterweight title fight in Las Vegas May 5. Philadelphia was the second stop on an 11-city promotional tour for the bout.

“You want to be the top dog,” Mayweather said, “but I’m the top dog.” “Everyone has a humbling moment in life,” De La Hoya countered. “Come May 5, you’re going to have yours.”

The two prizefighters were joined by local
boxing legend and former middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins, who is the East Coast president of Golden Boy Promotions, a company headed by De La Hoya.

“I want the fight to live up to the magnitude of the hype,” Hopkins said.
