Just when Adrienne Repsher’s senior season didn’t seem like it could possibly get better, it just did. Hailing as back-to-back Atlantic Ten Conference Player of the Week, the softball team’s co-captain was named Temple’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year at the Fifth Annual Breakfast of Champions Award Banquet last Wednesday at the Liacouras Center.
The award is given to the student-athlete
who prospers in the three arenas of excellence – athletic, academic and community involvement.
On the softball diamond, Repsher, who ranks first in the A-10 in both batting average and home runs, is having one of the most prolific seasons in the entire country. The first baseman ranks among the nation’s leaders in average (.478), slugging percentage (1.022), on-base percentage (.568), home runs (13), runs batted in (39) and fielding percentage (1.000). All of this took place in a season in which she became both Temple’s single-season
and career home run champ.
Repsher said the award means a great deal to her because it shows the overall dimensions of a person.
“I think it is a huge honor,” Repsher said. “Not only is it athletic performance, but it’s academic performance, too. And that is what’s most important.”
The Nazareth, Pa., native has proven just how important academic study is to her. Throughout her four years here, Repsher, who majors in Elementary and Early Education, has managed to maintain a cumulative 3.87 grade point average.
Repsher has been selected to the Academic
All-Atlantic Ten Conference and All-Area teams. She also serves as the president of the Kappa Delta Pi, the education honor society, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
Repsher credited her time management
abilities, a trait she said has been instilled in her by her parents.
“Time management is the key to getting everything done,” Respher said.
“Whether it’s looking over notes on the bus or doing something when I have a free minute, I know I have to budget my time.
“My parents are the backbone. They are the ones that have taught me my studying
skills and how to manage everything I have going on.”
Second-year coach Casey Dickson expressed her pride in Repsher at the banquet’s conclusion.”I am extremely proud that Adrienne has won this award,” Dickson said.
“She exemplifies not only excellence on the athletic field, but in the classroom and off the field as well. She is exactly what I would want all of my athletes to be, or to strive to be.”
Although the honor shines solely on Repsher, the lefty slugger made it very clear that there are many others responsible for her winning of the award.
“I realize, though, that none of this could be possible without every single one of my teammates and my coaches,” Repsher said.
“Without my teammates getting on base, scoring runs, hitting their own home runs and RBIs and my coaches being so supportive, this year would have never happened.”
