The women’s soccer team’s losing streak stopped at seven Saturday at Saint Joseph’s.

Netting only two goals in the seven-game skid, the Owls held the Hawks scoreless through two overtimes and battled their way to a scoreless tie in their regular season finale.

The season came to a close with the team finishing 5-10-4, including a 1-8-2 record in the Atlantic Ten Conference. They finished with a losing record for the seventh straight season. They haven’t advanced to the A-10 tournament since 1995.

Senior Kelly Lare was the spark on an Owls’ offense that couldn’t get on the board. She managed two shots on goal.

The offense was scorching at the beginning of the season, scoring 14 goals in the Owls’ first four games. The team amassed a 3-0-1 record during the offensive explosion.

The Owls settled down and only scored eight goals the rest of the way, a major reason they struggled to a 2-10-3 record the rest of the way.

Jenna Rankin led the Owls with nine points on the season. She led the Owls with three assists and tied for the team-lead with three goals.

Freshman goalkeeper Kara Williams finished a strong rookie campaign. She maintained a 1.60 goals-against average and worked her way to a .765 saves percentage. Williams also notched three shutouts, including last Saturday’s season-ending tie.

Williams ranked third in the A-10, averaging 5.06 saves a game.

Collectively, the Owls showed their aggressiveness, earning 8.17 fouls a game, good for ninth in the A-10. Perhaps that could be a building block for next year’s team, as they look to continue to ascend in the 14-team conference. Despite another losing season, the Owls bettered their 4-13-2 finish from a year ago.
