Two freshmen place second at the Temple Open

The Owls had 13 fencers place in the top 15 of their competitions at the Temple Open on Saturday at the Liacouras Center.

The Owls had two freshmen place as runner ups at the Temple Open on Saturday at the Liacouras Center.

Freshman foil Kari Weiner placed second out of 62 fencers in the foil competition, while freshman sabre Eva Hinds placed second out of 56 fencers.

The Owls also had 11 other fencers place in the top 15 of their competitions.

Sophomore sabre Kerry Plunkett tied for third in the sabre competition for the second consecutive season. Sophomore Kennedy Lovelace placed sixth and was a finalist for the second consecutive year.

Junior epee Quinn Duwelius had her best-ever finish at the Temple Open. She tied for third out of 79 fencers in the epee competition. Duwelius finished last season 45-18 and tied for the second-most wins on the epee squad.

The Owls will travel out to State College, Pennsylvania for the Penn State Open on Saturday.
