Best Pizza: Fame’s II
Location: 12th Street above Berks Mall

No, not that Fame’s. The other one. Located in a stylish cyan truck, Fame’s II serves nothing but the basics: pizza. For 13 years, Dee and Emo have supplied students with cheap, tasty fuel to get through the day. When Emo states the truck’s philosophy of “No steaks. No burgers. No junk food!” it’s a mantra for food truck purism. Students can choose among many varieties, from plain to chicken barbecue, and for bigger appetites there are calzones and strombolis. From nine in the morning until nine at night, Fame’s II is ready to serve with a smile. Though their amazing two-slice-and-a-soda deal has gone up from $3 to $3.50, it’s still a bargain. The hungry adventurer should try the newly introduced Mexican Pizza, complete with chili beans, fresh mozzarella, crushed tomatoes and some of the hottest jalapeno peppers on campus.

Best Breakfast Sandwich: Bagel Shop
Location: 13th and Berks Mall in front of Barton Hall

I’d have to say that if there was one thing that proved the existence of God, it is the breakfast sandwiches at the Bagel Shop. Every morning of my first semester at Temple, I went to the Bagel Shop and bought one of their delicious treats. Bacon, egg and cheese on a roll. It was my defining moment in life. For once, I had finally found a breakfast sandwich with enough cheese. I think it’s safe to say that these sandwiches are one of the top five reasons I am still a student at Temple. Not only are they delectable, but they are economical at a price of only $1.95. I urge you to try one as soon as you possibly can.

Best Heart Attack on a Plate: Owl’s Nest
Location: 2010 N. Broad Street (between Norris and Diamond streets)

I hate picking something so obvious, but how not to for my choice. Since I’m stuck on campus endlessly, where else can I get a cheesesteak but the Owl’s Nest? More specifically, it’s the pepperoni and bacon pizza cheesesteak. Don’t have a heart attack; I haven’t had one yet and that’s been my Wednesday-night special for over a semester now. Surprisingly, the cheesesteaks aren’t as greasy as one would think, and I’m not being relative here. They serve it on a fresh roll and depending on the day of the week — it’s grilled along with the meat. Most of the other options on campus for cheesesteaks don’t come close. Rule out dining services on campus all together. By the time I’m hungry for a cheesesteak — after the sun goes down and the Temple News is still being put together — there’s hardly another option anyway since the roach coaches have left.

Best Deals: Eppy’s Eatery
Location: 13th Street & Montgomery Avenue in front of Student Center

Setting up shop just outside of the new Student Center food court might be a bold move for a humble food truck, but with the deals Eppy’s Eatery offer, it’s doubtful that they’re losing any business. You just can’t argue with their breakfast sandwich combo: a cup of coffee and a decent sized roll with eggs and sausage/bacon/ham (your choice) for only $1.65. Lunch sandwiches are $2.35, hoagies are $3.10, and a small serving of killer spaghetti is $1.85. In addition to standard lunch truck fare, Eppy’s also has exclusive specials that the other trucks just can’t touch. They offer a vast assortment of herbal teas, including a good cup of Ginseng, for 75 cents. And that’s REAL Ginseng, people … it’s not for the squeamish. But best of all is their yogurt. With a hearty mix of fresh fruit, honey and granola, it’s simply divine.
