In the past few months coaching changes have been abundant here at Temple.
There have been four head coaching changes and a bevy of new assistants hired.
One of those new hires was Stefani Scallessa, who will now guide both the men’s and women’s track teams.
Scallessa’s position is historic. She is the first female coach to lead a men’s team in the university’s 110-year history. In addition she is now just one of eight female coaches to head a men’s track program.
Scallessa took over the position when previous coach George Phillips resigned this summer.
The new job is a familiar one for Scallessa. Before landing in North Philadelphia she spent time as an assistant at Monmouth and Delaware.
Between the men’s and women’s squads at Monmouth she was part of three conference titles.
Scallessa is a graduate of Villanova. Track season begins in the winter.
