We live in a country, in a city, at a school where diversity is embraced. For the victim of last week’s anti-Semitic attack, I doubt that notion provides any consolation. Jews are no strangers to being hated, persecuted and physically attacked. However, it never occurred to me that it would stir up violence on our campus.

The fact that anti-Semitism on campus is now more out in the open may very well prove to be positive. It’s no shock that anti-Semitism exists at Temple. Temple does not operate in a vacuum. Some will argue that this was an isolated incident involving a rogue group of students. Unfortunately, that idea neglects the bigger picture. Anti-Semitism cannot be combated by fighting back physically or by simply acknowledging its existence.

In order to fight anti-Semitism, we at Temple must band together to show anti-Semites that we won’t accept their ideology here. The will of the Jewish people is unshakeable. I can only hope that the will of Temple students and administration to fight anti-Semitism on campus will prove as strong.
