Fashion Week and its catwalk displayed the sleekest styles this spring and summer. Before you max out those credit cards, read this season’s style report for seven fabulous must-haves to fill your closet.

Anything metallic – From tops to bracelets and shoes to purses, shimmer yourself sexy with bronze, gold and silver. These colors are sure to make any outfit shine.Wedges – A shoe that grants supermodel height without the pain. Comfortable espadrilles heels are the accessory your feet will thank you for. Plus they make your legs look super long and sexy.Senior elementary education major Katie Fruhmann sports wedges because she can wear them with anything.

“I have a few pairs and plan on expanding
my wedge collection,” she said. “I think it’s fun and flirty but classy and gives legs a great shape. I’m very picky though when it comes to what the wedge is made out of. Like if it’s made out of plastic or fake wood I think it looks trashy, but if it’s made out of real cork, wood or that hemp material they are more appealing.”

For those ladies who were never quite keen on the skinny leg look, wide legged pants are back to give women a comfortable and sophisticated look. Pair these pants with a shrunken jacket or any short top to create the perfect silhouette.”Wide legged pants make my bottom frame look better,” said senior Jennifer Frahm. a speech language pathology major. “They are loose, but can look classy and great for any occasion.”

Nautical – Ahoy matey! Hit the high seas with nautical-inspired looks from sailor trousers to Bermuda shorts to nautical
stripes, this style is smooth sailing this summer.

“I love navy blue and white together,” said senior criminal justice major Ashlea Mellinger. “But mainly it’s because I spend my summers on boats and I just like the style and it’s preppy.”

Polka dots of all sizes are popping up on clothes and accessories. This 50s-inspired
trend adds playfulness to any dull outfit.

Frills and lace – They’re not just for grandma anymore.

Dresses and skirts lavished in ruffles, pleats and lace are the perfect way to make any woman feel like a lady. The trench coat is back, and it’s just the piece for those breezy spring nights. While carrying on its traditional Casablanca style, this season’s updated version is much more fashionable with intricate details like belts, cropped or puffed sleeves and piping contrast to add impact.

“I like it because I can wear it with anything – jeans for class or a skirt for church,” said senior journalism major Laschaunda Cogburn, who was found wearing a red H&M trench coat. “It’s also fitting for my body and I love the color.”

Retro fashion? Sure, considering the fusing of decades of trends from 40s to 80s style. Outdated? Hardly. These styles are back and safe enough for all fashionistas to wear without landing on Mr. Blackwell’s “Worst Dressed List.”
