Whoever said that gay men don’t like sports obviously has never been to Tabu Lounge and Sports Bar. Located at 200 S. 12th St., the lounge and bar hosts weekly events and specials designed to keep guests entertained all year long.

Taco Tuesday is one weekly event that has faired well with bar hoppers.

“It’s very convenient, and it’s down to earth,” said Temple graduate law student Enrique Marquez, who recently attended Tabu’s Taco Tuesday. “The drinks are inexpensive and delicious.”

During Taco Tuesday, Tabu sells chicken, beef and fish soft tacos for $2 a piece. In addition, the bar sells Absolut vodka mixed drinks for $5 and Corona beers for $3.

Patrons are able to enjoy Taco Tuesday specials and more while watching TV on flat screens located in the dim, intimate bar, which is decorated with sports banners and pictures. A relaxed lounge and dance floor are located upstairs for patrons who are looking for a more mature and sexy scene.

Tabu is situated in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Philadelphia, and takes pride in welcoming people of every race, gender, sexual orientation, height and weight.

“The philosophy of Tabu is acceptance of all walks of life – straight, gay, bisexual, transgender, short or tall,” said Freddy Shelley, 37, Tabu’s general manager.
