The men’s team has played itself out of at-large contention while the women’s recent surge has made them close to a “lock” for the NCAA Tournament later this month.
Kristen McCarthy had 15 points to lead the women’s basketball team to a hard-fought win in the nation’s capital. The Owls will also be the No. 2 seed in next weekend’s A-10 Tournament.
The Explorers came into the Liacouras Center and took it to the men’s basketball team, as Rodney Green’s 22 points led the visitors to a 70-63 victory.
Freshman guard Kristen McCarthy has delivered plenty of offensive firepower for the Owls this year. She is averaging 8.4 points per game and has vaulted into the starting rotation for coach Tonya Cardoza’s squad.
Khalif Wyatt’s Norristown Eagles went up against Rahlir Jefferson’s Chester Clippers Friday night in Coatesville. The two will be teammates next season with the Owls, but on that night, they were opponents in a District One postseason tournament game.
On Dionte Christmas bobblehead day, Lavoy Allen stole the show. The sophomore forward’s 20 points and 18 rebounds helped the men’s basketball team to a 70-56 victory over the Bonnies.
The Owls beat the Spiders, 65-52, behind junior guard LaKeisha Eaddy’s 21 points. A showdown with No. 17 Xavier, which is undefeated in the A-10 at 11-0, looms Wednesday.
