These days it seems comedies are expected to be outrageous and provocative rather than thoughtful and clever. Enter Eurotrip, the most recent addition to the stable of gross-out teen comedies.

Eurotrip, brought to you by the same fine folks behind the production of Old School and Road Trip, is stupid comedy at its pinnacle. But sometimes even the most ridiculous comedies create the biggest laughs.

The lack of big name stars, or any kind of star for that matter, gives the movie more of a cult feel – which is a good thing since we don’t expect a certain style of comedy from any of the actors.

Eurotrip stars Scott Mechlowicz, Jacob Pitts and Jessica Boehrs. If you don’t recognize these names, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Probably the most noteworthy of the group is Michelle Trachtenberg, formerly of Nickelodeon fame (anybody remember The Adventures of Pete & Pete?).

This young cast fits the script perfectly as Scott (played by the actor of same name), a pre-law student just dumped by his cheating girlfriend, discovers that his longtime German pen-pal is not a man named Mike, but rather a beautiful young frauen named Mieke.

Scott and his best friend Cooper (Pitts), decide to travel to Europe in search of Mieke. Tagging along are fraternal twins Jamie (Travis Wester) and Jenny (Trachtenberg).

Matt Damon, in a somewhat peculiar cameo, appears as a rock star who sings a song to the lovestruck Scott.

The comedy of Eurotrip comes in spurts, as scenes range from hilarious to just plain pointless. Gratuitous nudity, always a hit in teen comedies, is abundant and has all the vulgar language of movies like American Pie to go along with it.

Eurotrip is worth seeing, if you don’t mind making yourself considerably dumber in just an hour and a half. But hey, what are robotic street mimes, soccer hooligans and a Dutch dominatrix good for if they don’t make us laugh?
