On August 16, 1977, the world lost the most charismatic, passionate, talented performer and “King of Rock N’ Roll”, Elvis Aaron Presley. Elvis Presley was Rock N’ Roll. He created it. He lived it. Flattered by his contemporaries and often imitated by all subsequent musicians worth their salt, Elvis pioneered an entire generation.
Elvis was a humanitarian. His generous nature and charitable deeds live in infamy to those that loved him, and a nation that adored him. On March 25, 1961, Elvis gave a benefit concert to raise funds for the building of the USS Arizona Memorial. He was extremely proud to be an American, having served in the Army as a sergeant stationed in Germany, and to have had the opportunity to play such a vital role in the building of this monument to those who died in the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
In this same spirit of Elvis, Lucy’s Hat Shop is proud to present Sammy J, an award winning Elvis Tribute Artist, and a service veteran himself, on August 16th to both commemorate the tragic death of such a beloved national icon, as well as to follow in the same path of Elvis’s charity and generosity.
Ever since his earliest years, Sam has aspired to capture the dynamic energy of Elvis’s live performances with a tribute act of his own. Sam Formica can remember watching the 1968 Come Back Special with his mother. That particular event planted the seed for the great Tribute Artist Sam would eventually grow to become.
While most Tribute Artists try to capture Elvis’s look, sound or moves, few tend to reach perfection in all three areas. Sam wears authentic stagewear crafted by the same tailor responsible for Elvis’s sequined jumpsuits. He has studied and rehearsed the King’s every move. His trained voice bears a remarkable if not striking resemblance to Elvis’s. His act truly pays respect to the King’s artistry, straight from the heart. The perfectionism and professionalism with which Sam approaches his performance has awarded him both accolades and awards alike, most recently in Millville, New Jersey.
Sam will be performing two shows at Lucy’s Hat Shop on August 16th. Doors open at 7:00pm. Tickets may be purchased in advance through Sam’s website, isitelvis.com, on Lucy’s Hat Shop website, lucys215.com, or for $10 at the door. Supporters may also bring items from the detailed list on either Lucys215.com or isitelvis.com websites which will be used as part of the care-packages Sam is putting together to send to troops abroad. A portion of the proceeds from the show will be donated to the 103rd Engineers Family Support. The contribution will be used to support the needs of the families with a member overseas.
