For great dorm room decor, Beyond the Wall is the place for posters, cardboard stand-ups, and other wall and room dressings. The 10 percent student discount helps too.
Further up, there is Mineralistic, an eclectic gift store offering jewelry, lamps and lots of mystical-themed items. Harry Potter and company would be thrilled with the endless supply of gargoyles, fairies, mermaids and dragons. From lamps to boxes and everything in between, Mineralistic is a feast for the eyes and wallet alike.

For local and imported jewelry, there’s Ethnics. With the exception of the local artist case in the front of the store, all jewelry is imported from Bali. Thankfully, Ethnics offers daily sales and even private in-home Trunk Shows. Friends and family can gather at one home and buy beautiful jewelry at the same prices as in the store. The Trunk Shows have been quite popular in the Greater Philadelphia Area. As an added incentive, hosts receive free jewelry.

Since jewelry is nothing without the perfect dress, there’s C’est La V, a European fashion boutique. Of all the stores boasting beautiful dresses, C’est La V is the real deal, featuring gorgeous gowns bound to make any girl feel like a fashion icon. Prom season is busiest, but the boutique is also popular when it comes to weddings and classy parties.

Guys should try browsing Hats in the Belfry and Atomic City Comics. A South Street fixture since 1989, it features thousands of stylish and comical hats. Manager Harrison Clark believes that community influence is the key to the store’s success. “We’re the one store that really draws from the community,” he said. The store maintains its popular products year-round, thanks to costume parties, crazy-hat school holidays and Halloween.

Atomic City Comics caters to the comic book fans of Philadelphia with thousands of comic books and graphic novels. It also showcases rare collectibles and action figures. Behind the front counter, an entire wall is devoted to the display of exclusive hard-to-find comic books. The most valuable comic book prices in at $430.

After hitting the stores, satisfy an appetite by tasting South Street’s unbeatable cuisine.

For a fine dining experience check out the always enjoyable and stylish Bridget Foy’s. This South Street eatery offers a wide-range of menu items, from filet mignon to pecan crusted catfish.

If you’re in the mood for a more casual dining affair, try the South Street Diner. From morning into the wee hours of the evening, it has an endless supply of bakery-fresh cakes and pies and filling dishes such as the legendary chicken croquettes and Yankee pot roast.

From pricey and classy to cheap and relaxed, there is an endless supply of restaurants and eateries. Lorenzo and Son Pizza offers slices to hungry shoppers for less than the price of a Septa token, but doesn’t have seating.

Even so, patrons arrive in droves for the opportunity to eat a quality slice of pizza.
