A group’s speakers on campus brought about a protest.

Dean of Students Stephanie Ives foreshadowed the inevitable contention in Kiva Auditorium at the Islamic Apartheid Conference, sponsored by Temple University Students for Intellectual Freedom, yesterday, April 23.

“I ask you all to keep the principles of free speech and civil discourse in mind tonight,” Ives urged the packed auditorium prior to the conference’s start.

Featuring controversial panelists Robert Spencer, director of the blog “Jihad Watch,” Pamela Geller, former-Muslim Nonie Darwish and Sudanese refugee Simon Deng, the conference addressed issues such as honor killing and Jihad in the Arab-world, and specifically focused on Islam’s contribution to said issues.

TUSIF, formerly TU Purpose, has hosted Spencer, Geller and Darwish at past events.

Claiming the religion is an oppressive, violent force in a global discussion, Spencer and Geller specifically have been the subject of heated debate, and have often been referred to as anti-Muslim.

“We have a variety speakers [tonight] who will explore how Islamic law, in its traditional formulations… is an instrument for the oppression of women, non-Muslims and even non-Arabs,” said Spencer in his introduction.

In the week leading up to the event, the panelists’ presence garnered outrage from several campus and non-campus groups, including Occupy Philadelphia, Occupy Temple, and Students for Justice in Palestine.

To express their discontent, students and community members organized protest efforts that involved a pre-event rally and walk-out.

Sara Mohamed, a junior psychology major and officer of the Muslim Students Association, said she considered the conference a complete disregard of Muslim student’s rights, and was unsettled that her own university would host such an event.

“I saw this as being a flagrant violation of our rights…hate speech is not welcome here, and we want to make that loud and clear with this demonstration,” Mohamed said. “Temple is condoning this without saying so.”

As protesters filed in, the conference began with remarks from the TUSIF president and founder, Alvaro Watson, who addressed the discontent and began the conference with aggressive responses to protesting Muslim students. Amidst heckling and jeers, Robert Spencer took the microphone and grew visibly frustrated, as challenging yells from the audience consistently drowned his remarks out.

“Why are you being so rude? Why don’t you respect my freedom to speak?” yelled Spencer, as protesters stood and filed out mid-way through his discussion.

The activists, many holding signs reading, “The Muslims are coming!” and “Robert Spencer’s Hate Speech Inspires Mass Murder,” congregated outside of Ritter Annex to rally as the conference continued indoors.

Inside Kiva auditorium, Pamela Geller, co-founder of the Stop Islamization of America, spoke on the oppression of women that, she said, is often a sanction of Islamic practices under the Sharia law.

As the audience continued to challenge her, Geller pushed forward with talk of honor killings, genital mutilation and other practices undergone by Muslim women.

“My concern is the growing dehumanization and diminishment of women in the west under the Sharia,” said Geller, adding, “If you are silent, then you are an accomplice.”

Amidst rising tensions, the panelists’ question-and-answer session elicited confrontations between presenters and attendees, as well as within the audience. As the volume increased, Spencer continued to denounce audience members.

“This is a university; doesn’t anyone know how to think anymore?” Spencer yelled to the restless crowd. “Are there no discussions here? Are you all just automatons and they feed you this crap and you buy it? You can’t think at all.”

Spencer’s remarks, said protesting students, pointedly substantiated their discontent with the conference, Temple and TUSIF.

“In my experience with the events and panelists that [TUSIF] has hosted, it is the absolute antithesis to intellectual freedom,” said senior political science major Brianne Murphy. “This is not moderate by any means, and it’s unacceptable, especially for a university that goes under the moniker of diversity.”

As the conference wrapped up, Spencer and his fellow panelists were hurried to waiting cars. Noticeably aggravated, Spencer expressed his discontent with Temple students’ behavior as he was escorted out.

“Most of them are thoroughly propagandized and indoctrinated,” he said. “They have no sense of the importance of respectful dialogue.”
Alvaro Watson, though, considered the event a success, despite the negative responses.

“Events like tonight, it starts a conversation where there wasn’t one before. It’s a conversation that’s important,” Watson said. “I think the whole point of having the event is to share ideas, and exchange ideas from as many parties as possible. So that happened.”

  1. The reactions of these students just show how indoctrinated they are. If they truly believed in free speech and free thinking, they would have at least let the speakers finish and asked well-thought and challenging questions for them to answer, instead of heckling them.

  2. Such small minds that can’t conceive of the notion that the rest of the world might not share their “sense of fairness” or “values”. Then, given the opportunity to hear from people who have extensive knowledge about a subject, rather than engaging in dialogue and applying critical thinking skills to formulate their own opinions they choose to shout them down in a quintessential display of intolerance.

Evidence of students being told what to think rather than how to think.

  3. As a professor I went through this very thing a few months ago, and it ended up costing me my job. Two Muslim students were planted in my World Religions class and proceeded to completely disrupt the lectures on Islam and then had the gall to run to the school administration and complain, and that after one of them had passed around a libelous email about me. Given the naivety, disingenuous, and cowardly actions of the administration, I was sacrificed on the Muslim altar of expedience amid all the complaints from the remaining students who filed a series of complaints and appeals against both the Muslim students and the administration. So, what took place at Temple is simply more of what has been going on in the past and will continue to take place if the cancer undermining free speech, the truth, and the exchange of concepts and ideas is not cut out.

  4. the crowd is pissed from inviting scumbags as controversial panelists Robert Spencer, director of the blog “Jihad Watch,” Pamela Geller, former-Muslim Nonie Darwish and Sudanese refugee Simon Deng,

  5. irrational hatred toward people because of their religious faith? Look what muslims did on 911 in the name of their faith..and we are the ones who are irrational?

“An attack by muslims on American communities is an attack against all Americans!

^That’s rich coming from the right. No one was silenced and I’m tired of hearing from people trying to make this a free speech issue. The speakers weren’t barred or silenced. Temple didn’t shut down the event, it went as planned. People can protest if they want about what’s being said-they wanted their piece heard too. Protests from conservatives and liberals alike are done all across the country on a variety of issues. As long as they don’t become violent, I don’t see the problem.

  7. Pamella Gellar and Robert Spencer ate nasty minded people, they deserve what they got.
Where is your Christain teaching, love thy neighbor?
Both of you are bigots and should not be allowed to speak anywhere.

  8. I am stunned that this article never mentioned anything about my presentation and Simon’s presentation. I have mentioned that the Mufti of Saudi Arabia recently declared that slavery is accepted in Islam and that a slave should be happy with his life, except that he cannot own himself!!! This Mufi is the head of Islam in the center of the Muslim world! What do you think of that opinion you compassionate leftists! I am stunned that Simon was described in this article as just a refugee when he gave a speech about how he captured and enslaved by Muslim Arabs, which is legal under Islam. how can the writer of this article miss this important part of the event last night….. scary….

  9. To the “professor” Paul who responded to this article—

The fact that you wrote how two Muslim students were “planted” in your class is a nice way to open without ambiguity: your ignorance is clear from that one telling statement.

Nonie Darwish: when you make sweeping (sarcastic) claims such as “you compassionate leftists”, whatever your point is becomes irrelevant, because you are unable to elaborate on your position beyond what you attempt to formulate as an insult.

Here’s the one common theme that I am not able to understand that several people have laid claim to—that because students CHOSE to come and protest an event that they deemed as preaching hatred, intolerance and racism, you are labeling them as “indoctrinated” or simply victims of being told what to think. The last time I checked just as the speakers and attendees have the freedom to voice their opinions (now, you wouldn’t want to call them indoctrinated for that, would you?) so do people on oppositional sides. While some of you may have thought it was acceptable for Robert Spencer to call students racist Nazis, I think others thought it was acceptable for the student population he was targeting to respond.

Here’s a simplified version of what I’m saying since I fear some of you may not be understand unless put into concise, simplistic terms: Don’t dish it out if you can’t take it.

  10. Suzieq *”An attack on Muslim Americans is an attack on all Americans”*
An attack on any one group of people anywhere in the world is an attack all people everywhere. Racism anywhere is racism everywhere. Oppresion anywhere is oppression everywhere.

  11. So to understand some of the comments here, since a small group of the billion plus Muslims world wide were responsible for 911 then all Muslims are responsible and basically bad. Yet anything that any fringe Christian groups do is never the fault of all Christians. My point is this, there will always be those who do evil in the name of ideology whether religious or secular. Muslims are not the enemy but rather the ignorance and fear of others. Some of the topics that the panelists had attributed to Muslims such as honor killing, oppression of women and FGM are problems in both Muslim and non Muslim communities and should be addressed as such. I truly believe that these panelists are seeking audiences that agree with their extremely biased view rather than a sincere exchange of ideas. Have any of you blind followers of these people ever talked to a Muslim person or read about Islam rather than forming your opinions from the likes of these opportunistic parasites…. oops I meant Panelists who have their own agenda…. selling books, notoriety and making money as guest speakers?

  12. Bravo, ‘M’ and thanks for an informative article. Sadly, those (including the ‘oh so brilliant’ Darwish, who claim to want to ‘educate’ on Islam and its teachings, simply aim to increase the hate and disrespect towards over 1 billion people in the world – many of which have chosen this religion BECAUSE of what is not taught by these hate mongers – PEACE.

When a Christian commits a crime (Timothy McVeigh – Oklahoma), he’s not tagged ‘Christian terrorist’; nor is Christianity attacked for every serial killer that was practicing Christianity. Wake up, all of you, who have blinders on! Don’t judge the religion based on the people who MISpractice it.

  13. Well said, Dee (seems we had the same ‘wave’ of thought processing this morning). Simply put, for those with the shining brains to actually have learned about Islam by reading and knowing the people who practice it properly…we’re not ‘indoctrinated’ in the least. But instead ‘liberated’ from the threat and disease of IGNORANCE.

  14. One of the jihadists’ most potent psychological weapons is the double standard Muslims have imposed on the West. Temples and churches are destroyed and vandalized, Christians murdered and driven from the lands of Christianity’s birth, anti-Semitic lunacy propagated by high-ranking Muslim clerics, and Christian territory like northern Cyprus ethnically cleansed and occupied by Muslims. Yet the West ignores these depredations all the while it agonizes over trivial “insults” to Islam and Mohammed, and decries the thought-crime of “Islamophobia” whenever even factual statements are made about Islamic history and theology. This groveling behavior confirms the traditional Islamic chauvinism that sees Muslims as the “best of nations” destined by Allah to rule the world through violent jihad.
Even in the rarefied world of academic scholarship, this fear of offense has protected Islam from the sort of critical scrutiny every other world religion has undergone for centuries. Some modern scholars who do exercise their intellectual freedom and investigate these issues, like Christoph Luxenberg or Ibn Warraq, must work incognito to avoid the wrath of the adherents of the “Religion of Peace.”

  15. Typical.

Why do Muslims kill Buddhists in southern Thailand?
Why do Muslims kill Hindus in Pakistan?
Why do Muslims kill Chinese in NW China and Russians in southern Russia?
Why do Muslims kill Christians in Egypt, Iraq, Sudan, Pakistan, Nigeria and elsewhere?
Why do Muslims hang homosexuals and threaten genocide of Jews in Iran?
    Why do Muslims subjugate women?
Why do Muslims kill Black Africans throughout Northern Africa?

What is the common thread here? Is it American servicemen pissing on their hate-filled book or their hate-filled holy book that is the cause?

  16. This man agrees with the speakers:

    John Quincy Adams on Islam

“The precept of the Koran is, perpetual war against all who deny, that Mahomet is the prophet of God. The vanquished may purchase their lives, by the payment of tribute; the victorious may be appeased by a false and delusive promise of peace; and the faithful follower of the prophet, may submit to the imperious necessities of defeat: but the command to propagate the Moslem creed by the sword is always obligatory, when it can be made effective. The commands of the prophet may be performed alike, by fraud, or by force.”

  17. This man agrees with the speakers:

    John Wesley on Islam

“Ever since the religion of Islam appeared in the world, the espousers of it…have been as wolves and tigers to all other nations, rending and tearing all that fell into their merciless paws, and grinding them with their iron teeth; that numberless cities are raised from the foundation, and only their name remaining; that many countries, which were once as the garden of God, are now a desolate wilderness; and that so many once numerous and powerful nations are vanished from the earth! Such was, and is at this day, the rage, the fury, the revenge, of these destroyers of human kind.”

  18. This man agrees with the speakers:

    Hilaire Belloc on Islam

“Will not perhaps the temporal power of Islam return and with it the menace of an armed Mohammedan world, which will shake off the domination of Europeans – still nominally Christian – and reappear as the prime enemy of our civilization? The future always comes as a surprise, but political wisdom consists in attempting at least some partial judgment of what that surprise may be. And for my part I cannot but believe that a main unexpected thing of the future is the return of Islam.”

  19. This man agrees with the speakers:

Bishop Fulton J Sheen on Islam

“Today (1950), the hatred of the Moslem countries against the West is becoming hatred against Christianity itself. Although the statesmen have not yet taken it into account, there is still grave danger that the temporal power of Islam may return and, with it, the menace that it may shake off a West which has ceased to be Christian, and affirm itself as a great anti-Christian world Power.”

  20. This man agrees with the apeakers:

Patriarch Cyrus of Alexandria on Islam

“I am afraid that God has sent these men to lay waste the world”.

  21. This man agrees with the speakers:

ry Palamus of Thessalonica on Islam

“For these impious people, hated by God and infamous, boast of having got the better of the Romans by their love of God…they live by the bow, the sword and debauchery, finding pleasure in taking slaves, devoting themselves to murder, pillage, spoil and not only do they commit these crimes, but even – what an aberration – they believe that God approves of them. This is what I think of them, now that I know precisely about their way of life.”

  22. This man agrees with the speakers:

    John Quincy Adams on Islam

“In the seventh century of the Christian era, a wandering Arab of the lineage of Hagar [i.e., Muhammad], the Egyptian, combining the powers of transcendent genius, with the preternatural energy of a fanatic, and the fraudulent spirit of an impostor, proclaimed himself as a messenger from Heaven, and spread desolation and delusion over an extensive portion of the earth. Adopting from the sublime conception of the Mosaic law, the doctrine of one omnipotent God; he connected indissolubly with it, the audacious falsehood, that he was himself his prophet and apostle. Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion. He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind.”

“THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST: TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE (Adams’s capital letters). Between these two religions, thus contrasted in their characters, a war of twelve hundred years has already raged. The war is yet flagrant. While the merciless and dissolute dogmas of the false prophet shall furnish motives to human action, there can never be peace upon earth, and goodwill towards men.”

  23. This man agrees with the speakers:

    Vernon Richards on Islam

“The true Islamic concept of peace goes something like this:’Peace comes through submission to Muhammad and his concept of Allah'(i.e. Islam). As such the Islamic concept of peace, meaning making the whole world Muslim, is actually a mandate for war. It was inevitable and unavoidable that the conflict would eventually reach our borders, and so it has.”

  24. This man agrees with the speakers:

    Andre Servier on Islam

“Islam was not a torch, as has been claimed, but an extinguisher. Conceived in a barbarous brain for the use of a barbarous people, it was – and it remains – incapable of adapting itself to civilization. Wherever it has dominated, it has broken the impulse towards progress and checked the evolution of society.”

  25. This man agrees with the speakers:

    Alexis de Tocqueville on Islam

“I studied the Koran a great deal…I came away from that study with the conviction that by and large there have been few religions in the world as deadly to men as that of Muhammad. As far as I can see, it is the principal cause of the decadence so visible today in the Muslim world, and, though less absurd than the polytheism of old, its social and political tendencies are in my opinion infinitely more to be feared, and I therefore regard it as a form of decadence rather than a form of progress in relation to paganism itself.”

  26. But these men do not:

    • The former Turkish Prime Minister Erbakan said – I quote: “The whole of Europe will become Islamic. We will conquer Rome”.

    • Yunis al-Astal, a Hamas cleric and member of the Palestinian Parliament said – I quote: “Very soon Rome will be conquered.”

    • Ali Al-Faqir, the former Jordanian Minister of Religion, stated that – I quote: “Islam will conquer Rome.”

    • Sheikh Muhammad al-Arifi, imam of the mosque of the Saudi Defence Academy, said – I quote: “We will control Rome and introduce Islam in it.”
Our opponents are hoping for an event that is akin to the freezing of the Rhine in 406, when thousands of immigrants will be given an easy opportunity to cross massively into the West.

    • In a speech to the UN, the Algerian President Houari Boumédienne, said – I quote: “One day, millions of men will leave the Southern Hemisphere to go to the Northern Hemisphere. And they will not go there as friends. Because they will go there to conquer it. And they will conquer it with their sons. The wombs of our women will give us victory.” End of quote.

    • Libyan dictator Kadhafi said, I quote: “There are tens of millions of Muslims in the European continent today and their number is on the increase. This is the clear indication that the European continent will be converted into Islam. Europe will one day soon be a Muslim continent.” End of quote.

  27. But these men do not:

“We reject the U.N., reject America, reject all law and order. Don’t lobby Congress or protest because we don’t recognize Congress. The only relationship you should have with America is to topple it. . . . Eventually there will be a Muslim in the White House dictating the laws of Shariah.” — Muhammad Faheed, Muslim Students Association meeting, Queensborough Community College

“Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth.” — CAIR cofounder and longtime Board chairman Omar Ahmad, 1998 (denial noted and full story explained at link)
“I wouldn’t want to create the impression that I wouldn’t like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future.” — CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper

“If only Muslims were clever politically, they could take over the United States and replace its constitutional government with a caliphate.” — prominent American Muslim leader Siraj Wahhaj

“In time, this so-called democracy will crumble, and there will be nothing. And the only thing left will be Islam.”

    Imam Zaid Shakir

“Muslims cannot accept the legitimacy of the existing American order, since it is against the orders and ordainments of Allah.”

    Imam Feisel Abdul Rauf:

“I do not believe in religious dialogue.”

  29. Nonie Darwish what is truly scary is your hate mongering agenda which is to pain a peaceful and beautiful religion (Islam) as a backwards and savage one. I guess some will sell their souls for fame and money. That is scary!

  30. Dee,

Are you blind, deaf and dumb?

You tell us Islam is “peaceful and beautiful” yet the words from the mouths of Muslims (as quoted above) clearly show Islam is violent and ugly.

Have you sold your sould for fame and money?

  31. The truth is very controversial for muslims and their enablers the Leftist Retarded Cretins, in fact they hate it to Death. Muslims have never dialogue with anybody on this planet,it’s a total waste of time to try to reach these Idiots, they woth nothing in all aspects.

  32. This woman supports Temple University Students for Intellectual Freedom (TUSIF)
and Robert Spencer, Pamela Geller, Nonie Darwish (a former Muslim), and Simon Deng (who grew up as a Christian and was taken away from his parents by Muslims and sold as slave).

Observing the students from Temple who are part of Socialists organizations or Islamic groups that deny the violence and primitive beliefs in Sharia law, leftists professors, and occupiers, I can only feel sorry for them because they do not know what true freedom is.

They are uncivilized and made a fool of themselves with their behavior during the Islamic Apartheid Conference. Even a Muslim professor from the school of social work embarrassed Temple University with his actions during the conference. He knew that a time for Q & A was scheduled at the end but he insisted on disrupting the speakers and trying to stop the event organized by other Temple University students who do not share his ideas. What about the free speech of other who do not share the ideas of professors from Temple and leftists students?

Is free speech only for the left and Islamists?

Is tolerance and diversity only for those who agree with you?

Temple University the land of the intolerant and the home of small minds.

All of those who protested against the conference believe that you are free and smarter, when in fact you are the slave of your indoctrinators and live in the prison of avoidance.

If all of you are so sure about what you believe, why are you so afraid to listen to any other views?

I always read about Socialists/Communists, Islamists, I read the Qur’an; I read what you write, I learn about what you believe and your perspectives, and I am still who I am. To learn about you is not a threat for me, it does not change me.

Stop being afraid and act as true professors, true students with open minds to learn from different sources and make your own decisions about what you want to believe. Take pride on being an individual who does not need a bias radical professor to poison your mind, heart, and soul with hate.

Learn to disagree without taking the disagreement from others as “hate.” I completely disagree with all of you but I still accept you and respect you. Learn from different original sources, talk to people who are different. Show that you are not the extension of your liberal professors and tool to advance agendas, or is that all that you are?

  33. “Musfti of Saudi Arabia”??? What the heck! There is no such thing in Saudi Arabia or in Sunni Islam! Once again illustrating how the radical anti-Muslim “experts” grab any word and use it to justify anything. First off, Islamic Law acknowledges SLAVERY in its historical context. It also has very specific guidelines as to how they must be treated, housed, clothed & fed; This was all part of the move to get away from Slavery in the beginning of the religion. Something may I point out that was NEVER even suggested by Christian doctrine & yet you don’t see “experts” of anti-Christian groups running around being speakers at universities blaming everything under the sun of Christianity! Its so bogus. The whole thing is a scan. They are scamming American audiences & claiming they speak for “Women”!! BULL Pamela doesn’t know anything about me or other Muslim women or our rights in our religion. She speaks about cultural practices that Muslims, Jews, Drews, Pagans and Christians all experience throughout Africa and blames it all on ISLAM!!! Sorry, if I used her format, CHristianity and “Americanism” would be blamed for quite a bit too!

  34. How can you have a dialog when the entire event is based on hating Islam?????????? People are passionate about their faiths just as much as you are passionate about yours.

We can all point out violent things in ALL religions so lets stop acting as if Islam is extreme and Christianity for example does not have extremes as well! Or do you happen to forget the crusades? Or the scientists that were burned for stating their beliefs and their findings! But that is not the point.

The point is Spencer would ask questions and enrage the crowd and then when they respond to him outraged he would make it seem as if people are not giving him a chance to speak.

I will not HATE any religion.
    I will respect all religions.
If you want to know what Islam is really like you should at least interact with the LARGE Muslim population on campus through the MSA… You will find sweet and nice students that are welcoming… kind and respectful.

Enough is enough. I do not need to listen to someone who is NOT there to teach or share knowledge… But is there to talk bad about 1.57 BILLION MUSLIMS worldwide and their religion. Islam.

We need unity not division. And I hope we can stop bad mouthing ISLAM and other religions in the name of free speech because it is out of HATE…

  35. Jews, Christians, Sikhs, Hindus, etc.We can all live with one another, except for one – islam. Perhaps it is because all the others are peaceful religions while islam is not a religion at all; islam is nothing more than an evil paedophilic cult. Paedophilia in the guise of a wicked religion? Nice try pislam, but perverts are always their own worst enemy and weakest link. Mo and Aisha proves it.

  36. The even Islamic apartheid is not about hating Islam.
Just Google Islam and the treatment of woman and images of how they hung gays to execute them, kill girls that have been raped, and numerous atrocities that they do also against Muslims. In Islamic countries Christian churches cannot be build, Christians are killed, and those who live Islam are killed.

At the Islamic Apartheid conference two of the speakers were representing millions who suffer daily under Islam. When people tell the victims of Islam/Sharia law that they are liars you are ignoring their suffering and condemning millions who have no voice to die in silence.

Leave Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller out of the subject of Islam do your own research checking all the perspectives about Islam not only what your liberal professors or activists tell you, and you will find out that all these speakers are not bigots and that you have been so cruel by not listening to the victims of Islam as Nonie Darwish and Simon Deng.

I would share here some links with you but in the past when I did that Temple News removed my posts or did not allow them to be visible.

In the name of women, children, and men of any religion including Islam, and who are suffering at this moment as I write,I beg you to Google this information about Islam and Sharia law, and to remember that the few Muslims in the campus or in Philadelphia do not represent all the Muslims. While you refuse to look at this information on your own and not only from sources recommended by the MSA or your professors, there is another human being suffering without hope or maybe being killed. Think about them, move your focus away from Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller and seed information and knowledge on your own.

Do not argue with me or attack Christians; that does not rescue or will reduce the suffering of those living under totalitarian Islamic regimes and Sharia law.

I am repeating to you what Simon Deng, the former slave of Muslims in Sudan, asked the audience during the conference Islamic Apartheid,”where were you when I was a little boy and I was being abused and sold as slave by Muslims because my parents were Christians?

Again, forget about all the bad things you have been told about the speakers of the conference. If you did not know them and you looked up for the information about Islam/Sharia law and you found that your professors and the few Muslims that you may know were not telling you all the truth, what would you do? Will you continue to believe them only because it is too painful to accept that they were wrong?

There is a child, a woman, or a man begging for you to believe them and to be their voice. Are you going to listen?

  37. Would you rather doubt the pain and suffering of the victims under Islam/Sharia law than to accept that your leftist professors are wrong and are telling you only part of the story/issues?

  38. As hateful as anybody might be of Islam, Christianity, Judaism, etc he/she has the right to express his/her view as long as long as it’s done in respectful and peaceful manner. Having said that, should we extend the same rights to Nazis, Al-Qaida, or any other hate mongers?
Surely a number of Muslim are guilty of killing and doing real bad stuff just as number of Christians, Jews and Hindus, Buddhist, etc are guilty of mass murder and massacres’. None of these acts can be attributed to religion. It is human who have done bad things not that it was commanded by their religion.
The problem with panel is that it was intellectual and morally bankrupt and wants to follow Milosevic steps and cleanse the west from Islam. Which is not possible. Muslim or no Muslim, before pointing a finger at another have the honesty look it at him/herself first. There are just as many hidden skeleton in their inner-selves.

  39. islam is a Joke. So are its followers. A Crass, Perverse caricature of a real Religion.

  40. To call Nonie Darwish or Simon Deng “hate mongers” is attacking the victims. Your professors have done an amazing job indoctrinating you and brainwashing you. Congratulations! I believe in highway robbery – so did Muhammed
I believe in payback and revenge, so did mohammed

  46. Reina—

You claim to be respectful of those who do not share your view and then go on to call them “zombies”, “indoctrinated”, “brainwashed” and THEN, (my personal favorite), go on to write THIS:
“The event Islamic apartheid is not about hating Islam.
Just Google Islam and the treatment of woman and images of how they hung gays to execute them, kill girls that have been raped, and numerous atrocities that they do also against Muslims. In Islamic countries Christian churches cannot be build, Christians are killed, and those who live Islam are killed.”

Now….let’s be rational here. You first point is that the event itself is not about hating Islam.
Seems clear enough. I think we’re all on the same page. But then things get quite complicated, hmmm? So, although you claim it is not about “hating Islam” you continue with imaged of people being murdered and women being raped. Now, color ME confused.

Once again—you are saying the event you supported ever so strongly is not about hate, but IS about how this religion you do NOT hate commits terrible, violent atrocities at an ever so alarming rate?

Anyone else confused here? Cause I’m pretty sure that when I talk about rape, murder, and classify an entire religion as disseminating not only an ideology, but laws that condone these things that if I really thought rape and murder were terrible, I’d hate it. No?

Here’s my point: What you, the speakers and the other people leaving comments on here have exposed is one serious flaw—you claim WE are indoctrinated, brainless, “zombies”, yet cannot stop yourselves from picking the most extreme examples, quotations and those wonderful sweeping statements to “prove” you aren’t racist and that you really care about people!

Even worse of a problem? If you go back through, you will see that the people who have written against the event (i.e. the “zombies”) have formulated clear, well-written responses, are clearly engaging with the topic at hand, and yet still, because of your apparently “open”, “tolerant” and “understanding” views of others, don’t realize that you are unable to judge us negatively simply BECAUSE you disagree.

Reina, you may want to believe that you are exhibiting a voice of logic but the truth is, and I say this as a senior graduating with honors, as a member of Phi Beta Kappa and as a student who, like, most others, does their own research, formulates their own opinions and is fully capable, your argument is flawed in its method. The method, of course, is that you contradict yourself endlessly, claim tolerance while promoting a view that generalizes a huge group of people (not very tolerant, in other words) and, even worse, seem to genuinely believe that because we think you’re wrong, we’ve been brainwashed.

Is that because it’s simply too frightening to you to confront the fact that we showed up there because we, as individuals who joined together as a group, genuinely believe what we were saying? If you truly believed what you spewed you would not try to reason and debate with us—-are brainwashed masses generally receptive to any conversation whatsoever, as you have seen taking place here?

Oh, and for someone who claims to have respect, perhaps you should not paste on your PUBLIC facebook page how the:

“Temple University Leftists, Muslims, Occupiers and Other Socialists Who Attacked Nonie Darwish and Simon Deng, are Depiscable!!!”

    or,

“The indoctrination by leftists at Temple and other American universities is producing robotic individuals who are programmed to learn and to listen only to their hate monger professors–I know only about two professors from Temple who are a different”

First off—come on, Reina, you know how big Temple is, correct? And you’re going to say that there are only two professors from Temple “who are different”? Really? There you go generalizing again….however I must say, I hope you’re sincerely correct that there are ONLY two teachers at our school who have the audacity to to make such ignorant comments without even the awareness of the hate coming out of their mouths. Secondly, how are our teachers hate-mongers? If you believe that most of our professors would have shown up at an event demonstrating AGAINST racism and classism PLEASE tell me how that is “hate-mongering”?

I could keep going about the hypocrisy present and the overall lack of critical thinking and reasoning being utilized, but at this point I’m starting to simply find it depressing…

  47. Porky—-your attempt here, similarly to some others, is truly pathetic. While others who may be more aligned with your side have at least been attempting to cover their racist attitudes, you’re nothing other than another uneducated bigot. But congratulations on figuring out how to use the computer!

DeShawn, likewise, your rant against Jews who, according to you, have RUINED EVERYTHING IN THE ENTIRE WORLD EVER, is a nice way to showcase your foolishness as well.

Bravo, gentlemen! You should be extremely proud of yourselves.

  48. You can’t call for a conference and just invite islamphobes who are known to promote hatred against muslims. This is a hate group gathering and to see a university hosting that , it is unfortunate. if you truly call for free speech invite people from CAIR to respond to hate and bigotry.

    • Those that discuss human rights violations, gender and sexual oppression and religious supremacy that exists in Islam are not Islamaphobic. Those that turn a blind eye to it are interested in political correctness over facts. The facts are that Islamic idealogy is not compatible with democracy and that is a problem for all of us in the Western world. Are you also complaining when SJP and the SMA hold their propaganda hatefests full of ridiculous lies about genocide and apartheid? I thought not.

  49. Jews enlighten the world. Muslims darken it. To the extent that one disagrees with this assessment, then I would vigorously argue that in direct proportion to the extent one disagrees with me here, then to that extent, on this particular issue, one is either ignorant or malevolent or both.
One of the two intellectual cornerstones of Western Civilization is Jewish theological thought, the other being ancient Greek philosophical thought. The Islamic world, at best, preserved here and there a portion of these two great intellectual traditions, but really added nothing of substance to either (even Avicenna and Averroes, as Bertrand Russell noted in his history of Western philosophy, couldn’t touch the originality of mind possessed by a Christian thinker like Thomas Aquinas). Islam certainly never realized that both the Jewish and Greek traditions superseded it most effortlessly. In short, Islam was, when even in optimum mode, a transmitter and nothing more. How fitting and ironic in this respect, Islam being a glorified servant and that’s all, since all the while, through the ages, Muslims have thought of non-Muslims as the inferior ones. Can’t make this stuff up.
There is absolutely nothing good in Islam which can’t be found elsewhere, and yet there is so much wrong in Islam that is hard to find anywhere else. Jews have obliterated Muslims in the sheer number of human accomplishments achieved by them through the ages, even though Jews have always formed only an extremely small percentage of the Homo sapiens species compared to Muslims. All of this, of course, is part of the reason why Jews are so hated by the deluded followers of that malevolent seventh-century Arab con artist who goes by the name of Mohammed.
There are other reasons why Islam is so deeply anti-Semitic. Muslims, after all, are masters at finding reasons to hate, be it Jews, or other non-believers, or even fellow Muslims. But Jews, consistently outperforming and outthinking Muslims, have driven Muslims nuts from Mohammed onwards, and this is a major source of Islam’s profound antipathy towards Jews, the People of the Book taqiyya notwithstanding.
What a legacy Islam has left and is still leaving to all the world. Sick of this legacy. Most everyone should be by now. No good comes from totalitarian thought, which is antithetical to the best of the human tradition. Always has been. Always will. That’s why humans like Marx, Hitler and Mohammed should always be confined to the ninth circle, whether figuratively or literally. They so richly deserve it.

  50. I am as left-wing as it gets when it comes to social issues and that is one of the reasons I stand up to Shariah Law. Islam is an inherently reactionary and bigoted ideology. Not to mention that it is anti-semitic. There will NEVER be peace in the world until Islam is obliterated.

  51. M.—-You’re a great genius as i can see….Lolll I Bow to your Dick,you’re the Biggest!
BTW M you seem an Intelligent Wise Folks however not Enough to know that Pislam is not a Race and never have been one and never will be one…..perhaps you should follow your course at the University with more Attention and Assiduity, LOLLLLL Just Sayin Dude.
And for ” DeShawn’ M don’t be too Harsh with him because he’s only a Mustard and Mustard see everywhere the Jews in their Soup, and even in the Genital of their favorite Goats they can see the Jews…. “Amazing Hey!” but True!
This brain dead moron have a wild imagination for a dead brain!!!He only said openly What all Mustards Already Thinks nothing else and nothing less, ….you did not know that???? the Jews must be killed according to Bukhari because the end of the world cannot come until all the Jews are killed, until the trees and rocks say “O Muslim there is a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him” Bukhari Book 41….They are Genocidal Maniacs, they are pitiful, pathetic, brainwashed Mustards prostrating to a non-existent pagan moon idol.Don’t expect too much from men and women who wipe there Ass with their bare hands and are proud of it in the 21 century! OK!

  52. Here is why Islam is NOT a race: In each battle listed below Muslims conquered white people, or black people or Asian people and forced them to convert to Islam or killed them. Islam quickly became a religion of drone slaves made up of all colors.

  53. Arafat i’m sorry but i May Be Wrong when i told to ‘M’ that Mustarded are not a Race!!!!….sometimes even Porks ca make mistakes,it don’t happens often i assure you but it can happens occasionally…Afterthought Arafat i believe Mustard could be a Race, a Race of Degenerated Morons and Pure Crétins. I think i found the name of this fabulous Master-Race….

  54. I hope ‘M’ will congratulate me for this great Anthropological discovery, i have made. Thanks in Advance ‘M’, Porky.

  55. Porky—sorry, I won’t be congratulating you for anything. I will, however, point out that I NEVER claimed “Islam was a race” and simply spoke to the fact that protestors showed up because they were against the racist and classist ideologies being encouraged by our panel of speakers.

This is why conversation is impossible. As opposed to truly reading what someone writes, people come to the table with preconceived notions and stereotypes that color their opinions and words, and the “conversation” turns into this: people writing extremely inflammatory anti-semitic comments (DeShawn), people making a joke of the entire process yet, for some reason, continuing to comment (that would be a reference to you, Porky!) and, lastly, and my personal favorite of course: Arafat, who thinks that it is acceptable to hand pick a variety of overtly negative quotes as “proof” that they represent an ENTIRE religion.

That’s not very fair, now is it Arafat?

Here’s one for you, then. Pamela Geller, who according to many of you is “not racist” said this in response to a picture of the Oslo youth camp containing victims: “Note the faces which are more Middle Eastern or mixed than pure Norwegian.”

And what does it mean to Geller if you aren’t “pure”?

That “Breivik was targeting the future leaders of the party responsible for flooding Norway with Muslims who refuse to assimilate, who commit major violence against Norwegian natives, including violent gang rapes, with impunity, and who live on the dole….all done with the consent of Norwegians.”

So, what’s that mean? Arafat, since you’re so talented at picking quotations that speak to your propagation of a completely ignorant, narrow-minded and overly-general view of Muslims and Islam, I’m pretty sure that the event you’ve been defending had a speaker who believed the victims in Oslo were current or future gang-rapists (because all Muslims are, right?), would have committed violence and so, ifso factso, Breivik appears to be a wonderful man fighting for “purity”!

You’re right. There is NO racist context apparent here. Grow some brains, folks! I understand it is hard to critically think when you are constantly overwhelmed with paranoia and fear of every possible thing around you that doesn’t look like you, speak like you, think like you or talk like you, but you need to engage with what is actually occurring. In other words, Arafat, your use of inflammatory quotations can be done with anything in the entire universe. In fact, your last statement, that Christians provide enlightenment, Muslims darkness, is something that could be ripped apart should someone sit with the Bible for a good 20 minutes, and read all the hateful statements that “our” book has. Wake up!

  56. Of course you won’t congratulate me ‘M’ you are terribly Jealous of my Genial Discovery and you’re too cheap to say ‘Thanks Porky’ i’m not surprise at all!

  57. There’s no such thing as “Islamophobia.” That’s a word made-up by the goons and thugs at cair to muzzle criticism about barbaric Islam.

Bravo/a Spencer, Geller, Darwish and Deng for speaking the truth about hate-filled bigoted Jew/Christian-hating supremacist totalitarian fascist/nazi Islam. I despise Islam – it sucks. And I have every right to say so. What’s Islam? Nothing but savage barbarism disguised as a religion, invented by a mass-murdering Warlord. Islam should not be in this country. Islam is incompatible with freedom, democracy, and women’s rights. Why don’t you stay in your own countries? If Islam is so great why in the heck don’t you stay in your own countries?

As for the indoctrinated PC robot Leftist students at Temple – a centipede has more intelligence than you. You jackbooted thugs, not even letting Spencer & Co speak. Morons. Go live in Yemen, enjoy yourselves. And don’t forget your Black Hefty Bags, females, as the misogynist Muzlim males will insist you wear them.

  58. M writes, “…and my personal favorite of course: Arafat, who thinks that it is acceptable to hand pick a variety of overtly negative quotes as “proof” that they represent an ENTIRE religion.”

M, if I had the time and The Temple Daily had the forbearance I would flood this site with thousands of quotes speaking the truth to Islam. If I had the time and felt The Temple Daily would allow it I would also flood this site with thousands of quotes from Imams and the Qur’an and Hadiths and Sunna calling for violence and hatred and supremacism against all who do not embrace Islam. But all these “negative quotes” would make no difference to you for you’re not interested in the truth you’d rather spend your time believing in fairy tales. Truth be told you are not really interested in Islam. You are nothing more than the latest propagandist who revels in accusing others of being exactly that. You have convinced yourself, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, that your propaganda is really reality. Well, M, the joke is on you and one day you might get it.

Pure and simple, M, Mohammed WAS a rapist, a pillager, a killer, a hater of non-Muslims, a megalomaniac, a misogynist, a Jew-hater and these were on his good days. These are not my opinions they can easily be found in the Muslim “holy” books and from the lips of Imams. You can choose to ignore this. This is America – not the 57 Islamic countries – and you are free to voice your opinion no matter how detached from reality it may be; but what I think would be best is for you to devote the next, say, ten years of your life living in the Muslim world. You could start in Libya or Egypt to enjoy the fruits of the laughable Arab Spring. Then it’s a short flight to Sudan or Somalia where you can observe Sharia law at work. Then it’s a short flight across the gulf to Yemen. Saudi Arabia would be tons of fun as long as you consider staying at home 24/7 a barrel of monkeys. Then, of course, your trip would not be complete without a year or two in Afghanistan, Pakistan and you can pick-astan as a third idyllic place to end your tour. Who knows, even you might change your tune then.

“Allahu Akbar” he shouted out as he shot the 7 year old school girl at point blank range into her skull.

  59. Yes, and incredibly negative, hateful and violent quotations can be found throughout the Bible. Are Christians, and Christianity as well, evil? Must be.

Do you not consider historical context? Or are YOU so “indoctrinated” into your view that you can see nothing else?

What fairy tales am I believing in? That there are hateful, cruel people in the world? My, what a dream!

Oh, and just a head’s up….before you tell me where I should go you may want to factor in the REALITY that you have no clue what my background is, where I have lived, travelled, where my family and friends come from—-nothing. Then again, you like making claims with no true proof aside from assumption, correct?

Congrats again. I will not respond another time. Enjoy all the crap you continue to post and pat yourself on the back for standing up for CERTAIN people’s rights.

  60. “Historical context?”

Within three years of Mohammed’s death aggressive, blood-thirsty jihadists had conquered all of the Middle East, all of North Africa, Sicily, Spain, large sections of the Caucus regions, and had started what would become their bloodiest Jihad of all – their jihad agains the Buddhists and Hindus of southern Asia.

Is this the “Historical context” you make reference to?

  61. To “M,” above:

There are no commands in the Bible to “Kill the Infidels” until Judaism or Christianity rule. Yet, that genocide of all others is the primary theme of the Koran. And those commands to kill all the non-Muslims if they don’t convert to Islam are for as long as it takes for Islam to dominate and rule the world.

“Islam must dominate and not be dominated.” – Mohamet

You’re obviously completely ignorant about the war/conquest mass-murder ideology known as Islam. There is nothing peaceful about Islam, nothing – do you understand? You’re defending Islam? Then go ahead and defend Fascism and Nazism as well. Islam is just as virulently Jew-hating as Nazism. Oh, so you don’t think highly of Western Judeo-Christian civilization? Then I suggest you get the h*** out and relocate to Syria, Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Uganda, Libya or Sudan. Enjoy yourself in those wonderful and freedom-loving Islamic crapistans.

Here’s a quote from Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, that might interest you:

“Islam is an absurd theology of an immoral bedouin, a rotting corpse which poisons our lives.” – Kemal Ataturk

Without doubt Islam has poisoned the countries that call themselves Islamic. And Islam is as fast-moving as the bubonic plague. The invasion of Muslims into the West must be stopped before our lands become contaminated with the disease of Islam. Any Temple students protesting Spencer, Geller, Darwish and Deng, truth-tellers about Islam, are utter morons. Including those in the photo above – you nasty jackbooted thugs.

  62. For all the uniformed and naive Temple students that protested against Spencer, Geller, and Darwish, are you at least aware of some of their backgrounds. Do you know anything about Noonie Darwish? Below is her Wikipedia biography. I think you’d be surprised to learn she’s not radical at all, just a Muslim woman and daughter of a former Egyptian General whose had first hand dealings with the abuses of Islam. Read below.

Nonie Darwish (Arabic: نوني درويش‎) (born 1949[1][2]) is an Egyptian-American human rights activist, and founder of Arabs For Israel, and is Director of Former Muslims United. She is the author of two books: Now They Call Me Infidel; Why I Renounced Jihad for America, Israel and the War on Terror and Cruel and Usual Punishment: The Terrifying Global Implications of Islamic Law. Darwish’s speech topics cover human rights, with emphasis on women’s rights and minority rights in the Middle East. Born in Egypt, Darwish is the daughter of an Egyptian Army lieutenant general, who was called a “shahid” by the Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser,[3] after being killed in a targeted killing by the Israeli Defense Forces in 1956. Darwish blames “the Middle Eastern Islamic culture and the propaganda of hatred taught to children from birth” for his death. In 1978, she moved with her husband to the United States, and converted to Christianity there. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, she has written on Islam-related topics.[3]

    1 Biography

Nonie Darwish was born in 1949 in Cairo, Egypt.[1][2][4] Her family moved to Gaza in the 1950s when her father, Colonel Mustafa Hafez, was sent by Gamal Abdel Nasser to serve as commander of the Egyptian Army Intelligence in Gaza, which was under supervision of Egypt. Hafez founded the fedayeen who launched raids across Israel’s southern border, that between 1951 and 1956, killed many Israelis, the majority civilians.[2][5] In July 1956 when Nonie was eight years old, her father was killed by a mail bomb in an operation by the Israeli Defense Forces.[2][5].[4] This became the first targeted killing carried out by the IDF.[citation needed] The assassination was a response to Fedayeen’s attacks, making Darwish’s father a shahid.[6][7] During his speech announcing the nationalization of the Suez Canal, Nasser vowed that all of Egypt would take revenge for Hafez’s death. Darwish claims that Nasser asked her and her siblings, “Which one of you will avenge your father’s death by killing Jews?”[8]
    Darwish explains:
“I always blamed Israel for my father’s death, because that’s what I was taught. I never looked at why Israel killed my father. They killed my father because the fedayeen were killing Israelis. They killed my father because when I was growing up, we had to recite poetry pledging jihad against Israel. We would have tears in our eyes, pledging that we wanted to die. I speak to people who think there was no terrorism against Israel before the ’67 war. How can they deny it? My father died in it.”[9][10]
After the death of her father, her family moved back to Cairo, where she attended Catholic high school and then the American University in Cairo, earning a BA in Sociology/Anthropology. She then worked as an editor and translator for the Middle East News Agency, until emigrating to the United States in 1978 with her husband, ultimately receiving United States citizenship. After arriving in the US, she became a Christian and began attending a non-denominational evangelical church. About a year after the September 11, 2001 attacks, Darwish began writing columns critical of Islamic extremism and the silence of moderate Muslims.
Asked what can be done to encourage more moderate Muslims to speak out, Darwish answers:
“After 9/11 very few Americans of Arab and Muslim origin spoke out… Muslim groups in the U.S. try to silence us and intimidate American campuses who invite us to speak. I often tell Muslim students that Arab Americans who are speaking out against terrorism are not the problem, it’s the terrorists who are giving Islam a bad name. And what the West must do is ask the politically incorrect questions and we Americans of Arab and Muslim origin owe them honest answers.[3]
Darwish is the current Director of Former Muslims United. In a letter sent from that organization to Muslim leaders, Darwish said:
“We send this letter to you to be received by September 25, 2009. On that date 220 years ago in 1789, the U.S. Congress passed the Bill of Rights. This is a fitting date to put our pledge to the world…As founders of Former Muslims United, we now pledge our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor to achieve for former Muslims their unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We claim these rights as the foundation for our right to freedom from Shariah. We urge you to join us.[11]
She often says, “Just because I am pro- Israel does not mean I am anti- Arab, its just that my culture is in desperate need for reformation which must come from within”.[10]
She has spoken on numerous college campuses including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Princeton, Brown, Tufts, Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Oxford, Cornell, UCLA, NYU, Virginia Tech, UC Berkeley and several others. She has also spoken in the United States Congress, the House of Lords and the European Parliament.
    [edit]Views on Islam

Darwish believes Islam is an authoritarian ideology that is attempting to impose on the world the norms of seventh-century culture of the Arabian Peninsula. She writes that Islam is a “sinister force” that must be resisted and contained. She remarks that it is hard to “comprehend that an entire religion and its culture believes God orders the killing of unbelievers.” She claims that Islam and Sharia of forming a retrograde ideology that adds greatly to the world’s stock of misery.[12]
She claims the Qur’an is a text that is “violent, incendiary, and disrespectful” and says that barbarities such as brutalization of women, the persecution of homosexuals, honor killings, the beheading of apostates and the stoning of adulterers come directly out of the Qur’an.[12]
    [edit]Arabs for Israel

    Main article: Arabs For Israel
Darwish is a strong supporter of Israel, and has founded the group “Arabs for Israel”,.[4][13] composed of ethnic Arabs and Muslims who respect and support the State of Israel, welcome a peaceful and diverse Middle East, reject suicide terrorism as a form of Jihad, and promote constructive self-criticism and reform in the Arab/Muslim world.”

How do you like that? “Constructive self-criticism.” You think you might be capable of that in your own approach? Do you not think that this woman who has an extraordinary resume of experience should be allowed to speak?

The problem is that so many of you are young and naive and don’t seem to have the introspective capacity to be self-critical.

Look, I don’t think any religion is perfect. (Though there is a preponderance of evidence to suggest that Islamic societies are by far the biggest abuser of human rights and overall cruelty. Christianity was running a close second in barbarism before they got their act together and embraced secularism.)

But at least many of us have the capacity to be self-critical of our own religion and respect other’s who are critical. We have many intellectuals who are very critical about the world’s major religions, Christianity and Judaism. The problem is, we’ve yet to see the same amount of moderate voices among Muslims.

In the Middle East, I suppose this is the result of societies and countries that have state run media. Where freedom of expression does not exist. Where you can be silenced or jailed or beaten or worse for expressing a view that is counter to the state.

    But what’s your excuse?

You react like children by screaming and complaining? Is it that you just don’t possess the tools and knowledge to present an intellectually challenging retort and argument? You’re college students – where’s the intellectual rigor? Where is the open mindedness? Instead of shouting, why not listen and then ask challenging questions or ask to make your own presentation in response?

Finally, the fact of the matter is, you and your mob are dead wrong when you suggest that this group of speakers preach “hate.” I think you have a biased and naive view of what hate is. And you cheapen and lesson the meaning of the word by doing so. I think you need to learn the difference and nuances that exist between “hate speech” and criticism.
