Lacrosse drops first in two-game road trip

Syphard scored two, but Owls lost 15-6.

Coming off a win against Oregon on Saturday, the Owls hopped on a plane and headed to Colorado for a two-game road trip.

Temple dropped the first game to the University of Colorado 15-6, and will face Denver on Saturday.

The Owls fell into a 2-0 hole within the first ten minutes, with goals from Colorado’s freshman midfielder Marie Moore and freshman attacker Cali Castagnola. They couldn’t climb out once they fell behind.

Senior midfielder Kelly Syphard cut Colorado’s lead to one on a free position shot with 19 minutes left in the first half, but that was followed up with two more goals by Castagnola and sophomore midfielder Sarah Lautman.

Sophomore midfielder Nicole Tiernan added another goal off of a free position shot, only for Colorado to answer back with another goal from Castagnola.

Colorado went on a run of four unanswered goals in the second half, with freshman attacker Amelia Brown, Moore, freshman attacker Katie Macleay and Castagnola adding to the lead.

Senior attacker Jaimie Tabor and Syphard, off another free position shot, added two more goals to make it a 9-4 game, but once again, Colorado responded with another goal from Moore on a free position.

After sophomore midfielder Megan Tiernan scored with under 17 minutes left in the second, Colorado went on another run of four unanswered goals, this time from Lautman, freshman midfielder Amanda Salvadore and two from freshman midfielder Johnna Fusco.

Freshman midfielder Carly Demato scored her first goal with under four minutes left in the game. Then, with two minutes left, Castagnola tacked on her fifth of the day.
