Workers shore up site of partial floor collapse

Worker who was injured suffered no broken bones.

The worker injured in yesterday’s partial floor collapse at the Science Education and Research Center suffered no broken bones and was in stable condition this morning as workers came in today to shore up the area by removing the failed steal beam, Ray Betzner, assistant vice president for University Communications said.

Charlie Leone, deputy director of campus safety services confirmed that the injured worker is still in stable condition at Temple University Hospital.

Betzner said that the exact cause of the collapse, which appears to have occurred after a fifth floor connector failed, is still under investigation by state and federal authorities.

Pedestrian and road traffic in front of the building on 12th Street near Polett Walk is expected to be opened tonight, Betzner said, adding that the university was hopeful that construction on the project would resume on Monday.

Unlike the building collapse that killed six people in Center City in June, all of Temple’s construction projects are union jobs.
