The Owls jumped out to a 9-0 lead as the Explorers missed their first seven field goal attempts and didn’t make a basket until sophomore Yves Mekongo Mbala scored on a put back at the 16:05 mark.

Junior guard Dionte Christmas scored 19 points on 7 of 10 shooting in the opening stanza. The other half of the “one-two punch,” senior Mark Tyndale, added 11 points and grabbed six rebounds before intermission.

For the Explorers, Darnell Harris and Rodney Green each scored 10 points in the first half.
