KATIE FRY is a senior marketing major who is a member of Wholesome Boards, an on-campus longboarders’ assocation. She sat down with The Temple News to talk about her history with Wholesome Boards, her “Queen Dog” and her first time at Disneyland.

The Temple News: How would you describe yourself?
Katie Fry:
Well, I’m laid back. I am friendly, intelligent, [adventurous and spontaneous]. That pretty much sums it up.

TTN: Tell me about your involvement on campus.
KF:
I go to school. I’m a member of the cycling team. I was the vice president last year, but I am just a regular member this year because my involvement with Wholesome Boards takes up more of my time. I am also a member of American Marketing Association as part of the fundraising committee. I don’t really have that much time to do as much with that committee anymore since I am [busier], but I still go to their different events, like the Phillies games and stuff.

TTN: How did you get into longboarding with Wholesome Board?
KF:
They contacted me through Facebook because the culture is really Internet-based, and they wanted someone to represent them in Philly. The company has a lot of YouTube videos and lessons on tricks.

TTN: Did you know the guy before he asked you to join?
KF:
Yeah, through Facebook actually. I never really met him in person, which is the weirdest thing. And then, I met a whole lot of other people who longboard, through Facebook as well. He just asked me about the concept of his longboard, and he sent me and the other people that he wanted to be involved what they thought about his idea. Today is actually the one-year anniversary of the day that he contacted us. He then asked for feedback on his concept, and he then made a prototype and sent each of us one. David Williams puts our faces on online advertisements and stuff.

TTN: How do you represent their company?
KF:
Because they gave me a free product, in return I send them feedback, photos and rant about them on Facebook and Twitter. They are always asking for feedback. So they wanted some ideas on their clothing line when they began creating designs for that. Wholesome was thinking about taking a green approach to their clothing line, so they wanted to find out what we thought about that and if it would take off. I also help construct and refine their different digital marketing campaigns.

TTN: Give me a fun fact.
KF:
My dog Ruby is the company mascot. They call her the Queen Dog.

TTN: Tell me a funny story from your childhood.
KF:
Oh geez, I was such an awkward little kid. The first time I was ever really star struck was when I went to Disneyland and I saw Cinderella. I was so nervous that I had to ask my brother to go over and grab her autograph for me.
