Things got a little too real for some of the roommates this week on The Real World. Opening this week’s episode was Karamo telling Sarah about his childhood and how his father wanted to instill an appreciation of who he was and where he came from. He then had conversations with some of the other roommates including Landon who told him a story involving the use of the N-word. Karamo’s guard went up but no major drama ensued just yet.

The roommates also begin to really feel the strain of having no job. It seems to hit Shavonda the hardest and she seeks help from her father. He promises to help his daughter only to bail out on her at the last minute. In between waiting to hear back from her dad, Shavonda opens up to Sarah about her childhood and some of the things she endured growing up. We learn that her dad was never really around and that her mom was somewhat abusive to her as a child. Shavonda, who shows her first tears thus far, calls her ex-stepmom, Colleen, who helps her out financially. So all is restored on the financial front, at least for now.

After all of the tears, the boys decide they need a night out. Karamo, MJ and Landon head out to The Bleu Martini to have a few drinks. Karamo brings up his earlier conversation with Landon to MJ, expressing his anger over Landon’s use of the N-word in his presence. Landon didn’t see what the problem was, being that he was using it in the context of a story and in no way meant it to be racial. Nothing really got heated until later on.

Karamo was standing at the bar and all of the sudden cops surrounded him, and asked if he had a gun. He finally got MJ’s attention, already feeling betrayed because MJ didn’t come to his rescue right away. They get outside and Karamo immediately starts raising his voice, and MJ tries to get Karamo to calm down; only agitating him more. The cops explain that they were investigating an anonymous tip that a man fitting Karamo’s description had a firearm on him. Once Karamo is let go, he charges down the street, pissed off that MJ wasn’t there like he felt he should have been. MJ tries to understand where Karamo is coming from, but Karamo blows the whole situation out of proportion and even denies MJ’s request when they all get back to the house to talk the situation out calmly.

Tune in same time next week when the roommates are finally assigned their job with The Philly Soul and native hottie Jon Bon Jovi.
