Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is an entertaining and lively sequel boasting originality, creativity and imagination. Based on the book of the same name, Chamber of Secrets follows a young wizard in training destined for an incredible journey in the magical world of wizardry.
The summer is almost over and Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) is anxiously waiting to return to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Having lost contact with his friends, Hermione and Ron (Emma Watson and Rupert Grint) over vacation, Harry is once again at the mercy of his spiteful aunt and uncle, who discourage him from using his magical abilities.
Bored and restless, Harry receives a visit from a house-elf named Dobby, warning Harry of the dangers that lie ahead if he returns to Hogwarts. Harry, of course, disregards these warnings.
When Harry finally arrives at school, he is a celebrity. His triumphs during his first year have made him famous. This sudden popularity unsettles Harry and puts him at odds again with his nemesis Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton).
Harry’s second magical school year quickly gets off to a rocky start as mysterious events begin to haunt the hallways. Messages are written in blood and scrawled across walls warning students and professors alike that the Chamber of Secrets has been opened.
Soon students of Muggle descent (those without wizardry ancestry) are found petrified and rumors spread that Hogwarts may close if the mysterious monster that lurks throughout the school is not captured. Harry and his loyal cohorts willingly embark on a journey to save their beloved school from peril.
As with the first installment in the Harry Potter saga, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the screenplay remains faithfully true to J.K. Rowlings’ book, carefully developing Harry’s maturity and growth as he becomes more confident in his exceptional talent. The events of the film, like the book, are also strikingly detailed and elaborate. The world of Harry Potter, from the treachtourous Forbidden Forest to amazingly crafted Hogwarts’ castle, is brought to life with the vision of Director Chris Columbus.
The Chamber of Secrets is an improvement from its predecessor. The acting skills of many cast members prove to be more polished and the special effects are more realistic and visually exciting, showing that the sequels are definitely something to look forward to as this cinematic marvel continues to develop
