Dan is a case of success in dieting. He lost 60lb in just eight months. However, his success was not a result of only dieting.

In order to successfully lose weight and keep it off it is essential that the body is constantly being exercised. If not, the risk of gaining weight back is likely.

While a great deal of Dan’s weight loss can be attributed to exercise he did do a number of small things that helped contribute to his weight loss. Naturally, he had to reduce his calorie intake. He also stopped eating meat. As he said ” he couldn’t eat the exact same thing and expect to lose as much weight as he needed to.”

Nick, a junior, is another story of success in weight loss. He used to weigh 195 pounds In school he used to be overweight. His weight problems were often a source of sadness and depression. He tried dieting on various weigh loss programs such as Slim Fast, this led to anger because every time he lost weight it would just as quickly return. He then got inspired. He was tired of being “that overweight kid.”

According to Nick, in order to lose weight you must experience a ” total lifestyle change.” For him, this meant substituting healthier food for the ones that he enjoyed. He also did a few things with his meals. He added soy to his diet on everything from pizza to tacos. A practice he still follows. He also stopped eating before going to bed.

Of course, as in the case with Dan, the main ingredient to Nick’s weight loss was physical activity. He took up tennis. Doing all of these combinations allowed him to lose 35 pounds in one year, dropping to 160 pounds. He began his diet seven years ago and has held the weight off ever since.

Dan and Nick both tried dieting in their weight loss. But success really came when they realized that it was up to them to lose weight, and without regular exercise, dieting may work as a short term solution, but in the long run fail.

According to the National Institute of Health, there are many methods that people use while trying to lose weight. They include dietary change, exercise, behavior modification, and even drug treatment programs.

The most used of these methods is dietary change. But, as with Nick, it was found that most success was short term, and the success of a quick dietary change over a long term was unknown.

Behavior modification is another method used in losing weight. It includes identifying eating or related lifestyle behavior to be modified, setting specific behavioral goals, modifying determinants of the behavior to be changed, and by reinforcing the desired behavior. However, in this method, typically one third of the weight will be regained by the end of a year.

Exercise is anther of the commonly used methods. While it is tougher to take off weight from exercising than it is through either dieting or behavior modification, when the weight is taken off there is a greater chance of it remaining off.

Both Dan and Nick know about weight loss and were determined to lose the weight they had. It was through this determination and hard work that they were able to lose weight.
