Brandon Steiner, founder and chairman of Steiner Sports Marketing, Inc., recently spoke about the principles and philosophies that have guided his career.

The free event, presented by the senior seminar class of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, is open to students, faculty and the general public.

As CEO of Steiner Sports Marketing, Steiner worked with influential figures in sports, including Tiger Woods, Muhammad Ali, Cal Ripken, Michael Jordan and Derek Jeter.

The Daily News listed Steiner as one of the 40 most influential people in New York. GQ named Steiner Sports as one of the up and coming sports marketing companies.

Growing up in an impoverished family in Brooklyn, Steiner began developing his entrepreneurial skills at a young age with a lemonade stand, a paper route and his own food delivery business. After graduating Syracuse University with a degree in business, he joined the management training program at Hyatt Hotels.

“That was the corporate experience I needed,” says Steiner. “I became a well-rounded businessman and learned how corporate America makes money.”

He began building relationships with athletes as a manager at the Hard Rock Cafe and strengthened those bonds by opening a series of Manhattan sports bars.

Steiner’s vision and an initial $4,000 investment turned Steiner Sports into an 80-employee, $35 million enterprise specializing in connecting athletes with corporate America through innovative programs. Steiner Sports also offers high profile, authentic memorabilia from the biggest names in sports, both past and present.

In “The Business Playbook: Leadership Lessons From the World of Sports,” Steiner distills the leadership experience of some of the sports world’s biggest names into solid and practical business principles.

Steiner emphasizes the importance of preparation and persistence as the foundations of success for people aspiring for a career in business.

“Your next big opportunity could be staring you right in the face,” he says. “You never know where your next big inspiration is going to come from, and you can never put enough emphasis on balancing your life.”

Steiner will visit Temple Nov. 5. The hour-long lecture will be held in the Kiva Auditorium at 4 p.m. A meet and greet with the author will accompany a book signing immediately after the lecture.
