Former men’s soccer star Tony Donatelli helped propel the Vancouver Whitecaps to its first-ever United Soccer League Division Championship last weekend.

Donatelli provided steady ball control around midfield and added a goal in a 3-0 rout of the Rochester Raging Rhinos.

Though Donatelli served a limited role, logging just over 1,000 minutes as a rookie, he still managed to finish the season with two goals and two assists.

Last year for the Owls, Donatelli ranked seventh in the Atlantic Ten Conference in points with six goals and five assists.

The men’s tennis team ventured to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the UNC Invitational over the weekend. Day 1 of the tournament was a success as junior Philip Gegenheimer, freshman Pavlos Stephanides and sophomore Nathan Spunda each won their matches.

The Owls faced tougher competition on Day 2 and dropped four of seven singles matches. Freshman Gonzalo DeVilla was one of the lone bright spots as he won two hard-fought matches.

Philip Gegenheimer added the Owls’ other victory, beating Dan Schinke of North Carolina State. The team resumes action on Oct. 13 at the South Carolina Invitational.
