Women’s Tennis
The winning continued Sunday for the women’s team, which made it back-to-back days of shutouts after defeating Lehigh 7-0 in Bethlehem, Pa. The Owls won six singles and three doubles matches to sweep the Mountain Hawks. The team had earned its first win of the season Saturday, defeating Binghamton 7-0 at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center Saturday.
The day was highlighted by sophomore Christine Clermont’s 6-2, 6-0 victory over Danyelle Shapiro and sophomore Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova’s defeat of Erica Rosenblum.  In their doubles match, sophomore Elyse Steiner and junior Dina Senkina defeated Yulia Smirnova and Gayathri Balasundar, 8-0 while the team of Rukavyshnykova and Clermont won against Rosenblum and Shapiro. The team next heads to Norfolk, Va. on Friday as they meet with Richmond at 6 p.m.

Men’s Tennis

The men’s team lost to Old Dominion, 6-1, Friday, a defeat that snapped a two-match winning streak. The losing continued Sunday as the team dropped a match to Penn, 7-0.
Against Old Dominion, freshman Andrew Choi won his match over Ryan Wiggins, 0-6, 7-5, 10-8, while the doubles pair of senior Zach Tobias and sophomore Pavlos Stephanides claimed victory in their match against the duo of brothers Matt and Riley King, 8-5.  The team next will play on Friday at 5 p.m. as the Owls host Dayton at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.

Track and Field
The men and women squads split their teams up as they competed at the New Balance Invitational in New York, N.Y. and the Bucknell Winter Classic.
At the New Balance Invitational, on the women’s side, freshman Paris Williams placed fourth out of 51 competitors in the 500m dash championship with a time of 1:13.83. Meanwhile, Marquise Stancil placed 10th out of 55 others in the same event on the men’s side, running a time of 1:04.43. At the Bucknell Winter Classic, junior Devon Dupont placed first at the women’s long jump with a final distance of 5.60m. In the same event, freshman Idowu Edeki placed seventh for the men’s team with a final jump of 6.38m. In the men’s triple jump, freshman Kijaun Wilkinson placed first with a final distance of 14.28m.

Meanwhile, the Owls also performed well at the weight throw. Junior Amanda Cole took home second in the event with a finals distance of 15.31m, while sophomore Grant West finished first on the men’s side with a throw of 16.75m in the finals. Next, the Owls head to Kingston, R.I. on Saturday to compete in the Atlantic Ten Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship.

Women’s Basketball
Temple Athletics will be a donating a portion of the ticket proceeds at the game on Sunday versus Duquesne to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in the ongoing effort for the “Be Wise for the Cure” breast cancer awareness campaign. Ticket are $5 individually and $3 for groups of 10 or more. These tickets can be ordered by calling 215-204-6710. The athletics department will also be selling Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirts throughout the month of February for $10. Shirts can be purchased at the Temple Athletic Department located on the fourth floor of 1700 N. Broad St. or by e-mail at clayton.cochrane@temple.edu. The shirts are black with small through extra-large sizes available.
Sunday’s game is also “NCAA Pack the House Day.” The Owls will attempt to set a Temple women’s basketball attendance record at the Liacouras Center.

Women’s Fencing
The team will head into the playoffs with momentum after a perfect 5-0 showing over the weekend in Durham, N.C., during the Duke Multi-Meet. The Owls beat Brandeis, 21-6, Air Force, 23-4, MIT, 19-8, North Carolina, 21-6 and host Duke, 19-8 to sweep through the meet. Every Temple fencer finished with a winning record, led by junior Samantha Myles (8-0), senior Marla Nacey (9-1) and senior Brianna Ferrara (5-1). The Owls finished the regular season with a 26-5 record, and will now have a few days off before traveling to Charlotte for the start of the Junior Olympics which begins Friday at 8 a.m. and continues through Monday.
