Losing streak continues

Owls drop match to Duquesne as losing streak reaches eight.

The men’s tennis team lost to Atlantic 10 Conference rival Duquesne 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Owls (2-8, 1-2 A-10) have dropped the past eight matches. The Dukes (9-3, 2-1 A-10) won the first match of a four-match homestand.

In singles, senior Kacper Rams continued his losing streak, dropping his ninth-straight match. He fell 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to sophomore Rich Robbie in the top flight. Rams hasn’t won a match since September 28, 2012 at the Penn Invitational.

In the second flight, sophomore Kristian Marquart snapped a seven-match losing streak, defeating junior Pete Carpenter 3-6, 6-0, 7-5. Freshman Nicolas Paulus defeated freshman Corey Robinson 6-3, 6-3 in the third flight.

Freshman Santiago Canete dropped a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 fourth flight decision to sophomore Alex Aleman. After starting his Temple career with four straight wins, he has since dropped six straight.

In flight five, freshman Hicham Belkssir lost to junior Max Rubin 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Freshman Sam Rundle fell to senior Ben Klaas 6-3, 6-4 in the sixth flight.

In the top doubles flight, Paulus and freshman Maros Januvka fell 8-5 to Carpenter and Aleman. This was Januvka’s first competitive action of the spring.

Rams and Canete lost to Robinson and Rubin 8-5 in the second flight. In flight three, Marquart and Rundle defeated Robbie and Klaas 8-7 (13-11).

The Owls are next in action at Xavier on Friday, March 15.  The match will commence at 7 p.m.
