Men’s tennis falls to Old Dominion

Owls manage one point in second loss.

The men’s tennis team fell to #67 Old Dominion Sunday afternoon 6-1 in Norfolk, VA.

The Owls (2-2, 1-0 Atlantic 10 Conference) lost their second match in a row. The Monarchs improved to 5-3 (0-0 Colonial Athletic Association).

Old Dominion started off the day with the doubles point. In the first flight, sophomores Carlos Lopez Villa and Can Cetinel defeated freshmen Nicolas Paulus and Sam Rundle 8-0. Junior Wesley Barrett and freshman Tim Schweig knocked off senior Kacper Rams and freshman Santiago Canete 8-4 in the second flight. The third flight match was not completed, although sophomore Kristian Marquart and freshman Hicham Belkssir were up 6-3 against freshman Jonas Kuwert and senior Alfredo Rodriguez.

In the first singles flight, Rams lost 6-1, 6-0 to Lopez Villa. Belkssir fell to junior Dante Terenzio 6-2, 6-0 in the second flight.

Marquart lost 6-4, 6-3 to Barrett in the third flight. Temple got its lone point in the fourth flight, where Canete defeated Kuwert 6-2, 0-6, 6-4.

In the fifth flight, Paulus was downed 6-2, 6-0 by Schweig. Rundle fell to senior Zvonimir Podvinski 6-3, 6-3.

Temple next plays against Drexel at Legacy on Friday, February 15 at noon.
