CROSS COUNTRY

The women’s cross country team placed 13th at the Delaware Invitational Saturday. Junior Shanice DePass paced the Owls, finishing the 5k course in 20:29.28. It marked the first time in her career that she had led the team

Freshman Joanna Duffey’s 20:41.19 time ranked second on the Owls and 45th overall, while freshman Ana Gottesfield, sophomores Rachael Angstadt and Reava Potter completed the Owls’ top five finishers.

Delaware took the overall team championship, followed by American, Towson, Hofstra and Northeastern.

The team is off next weekend, but their eyes are on the Atlantic Ten Conference championship, held Oct. 28 in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The men’s cross country team fared better as a team, finishing 5th overall at the meet, the team’s last tune-up before the A-10 championship.
The Owls were led by sophomore Adin Mickle who placed 11th overall by completing the 8k course in 27:01.91. Freshmen Travis Gerhardt (15th) and Dan Rinehart (24th), sophomore Jim Waddington (31st) and senior Dave D’Addario (40th) rounded out Temple’s top five runners in the 115 member field.

Delaware captured the team title, while American, Hofstra, West Chester and the Owls followed, respectively.

MEN’S TENNIS

Senior Matt Struble and junior Phillip Gegenheimer brought the B-2 Doubles championship home to Temple at the South Carolina Fall Invitational Sunday. The duo captured the tournament after they defeated three teams and won the championship by default.

The individual portion of the tournament was not as favorable for the Owls. Only Gegenheimer and freshman Pavlos Stephanides, made it past the opening day, and neither won their next match.

The Owls look to fare better at the ITA Championships at Penn on Thursday.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Freshman Christine Clermont, one of the many new faces on the women’s tennis team, reached the finals of the B flight singles at the Newport News Invitational Sunday. There, she fell in a heart-breaker, 7-5, 7-5 to Magda Bresson of William and Mary.

Senior Yuri Kurashima captured another title as she won the A flight singles consolation championship. She won three straight matches, including a win over top- seeded Charleen Haarhoff of Old Dominion, 9-8 (4) in the final.

Haarhoff would gain redemption in the A doubles final. She and Fernanda Luiz defeated Kurashima and freshman teammate Radka Ferancova, 8-3.

The Owls head back to the court Friday at the ITA Regionals in Hanover, NH.

GOLF

The golf team shot a two- round 625 to tie for 11th place at the Big 5 Classic last weekend. Sophomore Adam Pifer led the Owls, finishing 10th overall with a two-day 151. He tied for the best average in par three scoring with a 2.88.
