Two days into my freshman year, I knocked on the office door and pleaded with the editor-in-chief to hire me. Mundane and grassroots as it sounds, that day unlocked a wonderful four-year experience.
I was a designer at first and a section editor next, before graduating as the newspaper’s managing editor. There, I learned the professionalism required to pursue veracious stories and follow forthcoming leads.
My greatest personal thrill came when I, with the help of a talented Sports staff, developed a six-page package to celebrate John Chaney’s career, upon the hall-of-fame coach’s retirement.
Six years after that initial knock on The Temple News’ door, my tenure there still holds up as the highlight of my collegiate career.
