Temple Student Government is changing the way it distributes SEPTA tokens during its popular Free Token Fridays.

Every Thursday at 8 p.m., 50 registered students will be randomly selected to receive two free tokens. Students will now receive tokens if they win TSG’s “lottery.”

The current system of first-come, first-serve is “inherently biased toward students with no classes or other time commitments between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.,” a TSG press release said.

Although a student may not receive free tokens in two consecutive weeks, students remain eligible to receive tokens throughout the year.

Recipients will be notified via email on Thursday evening after the drawing and will have from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday to pick up their tokens. Recipients who cannot claim tokens during that time must make arrangements with TSG by emailing tsg@temple.edu.
