Facebook not just for coeds anymore

In a change announced last week, Facebook.com, a social networking Web site, announced that it would now allow non-school networks onto the site.

Previously, the only way to be a part of the network was to have a valid university e-mail address. Earlier this year, the site began permitting high school students and several corporations to join the network.

Facebook now has networks for colleges, high schools, work places and regions According to its Web site, Facebook supports more than 2,500 colleges, 22,000 high schools and 1,000 work networks. Only networks previously supported by Facebook, or permitted to join by request are part of the site.
Facebook recently faced a barrage of complaints from users about the News Feed feature, which prompted the site to allow users to choose stricter privacy features.

Users will still be unable to read the profiles of subscribers
outside of their networks.
