Shuttle transportation, tuition increases and program funding were the main topics discussed at Monday’s Temple Student Government meeting.
TSG President T.J. Baker discussed the availability of shuttle transportation on campus. Baker said that there has been a “constant dialogue” between Campus Safety and himself about possible ways to increase service to students on campus.
More shuttles are needed, Baker said, “as the University continues to swell.”
Possible solutions discussed include adding shuttles to the fleet and creating a shuttle loop that would drive between the various dormitories on campus.
Tuition hikes were also discussed at the meeting. Temple’s funding is being cut by $10 million this year, after a $5 million cut last year. Budgets for the various departments in the University will be trimmed to adjust for the cuts; it is uncertain whether tuition rates will increase beyond the usual annual hikes as well. Housing rate increases of 4.5 percent were announced at last week’s Board of Trustees meeting.
Funding for three TSG programs was passed at the meeting. TSG allotted $1,000 for a concert being held at the Tyler campus on March 29. The concert will be free for all Temple students.
A reception for outgoing Vice President of Student Affairs Valaida Walker at next Monday’s TSG meeting was allocated $700.
The Temple Student Government Networking Event was allocated $3,284. Of that money, $3,034 was for food being served at the event. The Networking Event is designed to introduce Temple students to professionals in various fields. There will also be a business card exchange and resume critique for those who attend. Students interested in attending must contact TSG Vice President of Academic Affairs Anthony Gallegos by March 26.
