The Diamond Line Lady responds to Julie Crist’s Temple Tips article from two weeks ago.
Julie, I’ve just completed reading the article that you wrote concerning the Diamond Line. You seem to have many questions, and I believe that I can answer them because you see, I am the Diamond Line lady of whom you speak about!
Julie’s Question – Did you ever wonder who that Diamond Lady is?
My Response – Her name is Rosalind, a full-time, 19-year Temple employee, mother of four children ages 8 to 17, wife, and a part-time Temple student majoring in political science.
J Q – I wonder if she is that person who checks your ID and pin number, because she is incredibly slow.
M R – The layers of computers that run the Diamond Line program are incredibly slow. The system is extremely complex!
J Q – I think all automated phone systems are weird … I wonder if you can go to school for AV?
M R – There are actually two voices that lead you through the Diamond Line prompts, mine and another woman named Marcia who is a professional singer located in California. I am not aware of a school that will teach you how to sound like an automated voice. However, if my voice sounds monotonous to you, please forgive me, there is probably a good reason!
My job is much more complex than recording the Diamond Line. I wrote the 4,000-line computer logic for the Diamond Line, programmed and extensively tested it for six months. I also wrote a 1,000-page document that details how I designed the Diamond Line application (in the event that I die). After this was all completed, I recorded the 800 phrases that prompt you through the system.
Please know that the Diamond Line was created back in 1994 to make the student’s life at Temple easier.
