Dear Editor:

Something that has been bothering me lately on many levels are the smokers on our
campus. Not to say I am against people having the right to smoke; but it seems like
half the people outside are smoking. I can’t walk fifty feet without having smoke
blown in my face.
I physically cannot stand smoke. If I breathe it in for more than five minutes, I’m
coughing for hours. My body simply can’t tolerate the sting of tobacco. The worst
part is being unable to avoid it — people are regularly smoking in the breezeway in
front of the J&H cafeteria, where there are “No Smoking” signs all over, and I have to
breathe through my sleeves as I pass by.
This is a plea to smokers on campus: Many people who don’t smoke cannot
stand your dirty habit. How would you like having car exhaust blown in your face all
the time? That’s the way it feels to me. Call me a wuss if you want, but the air in
Philly is bad enough without all the inconsiderate smokers.
