Senior guard Juan Fernandez only needed three points to achieve the 1,000 career-point milestone in Temple’s matchup with the Rice Owls (7-4) on Monday at the Tudor Center in Houston, Texas. But Fernandez surpassed that mark and went 5-7 on three point field goals and 8-18 on the night to score a season-high 23 points, as the Cherry and White (7-3) won 77-70.
Redshirt-senior guard Ramone Moore and sophomore guard Aaron Brown contributed offensively as well with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Junior forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson led the team in rebounds with 10, while adding nine points and three assists.
The Owls will have a break before taking on the Buffalo Bills at 7 p.m. on Dec. 28 at the Liacouras Center.
