You have a craving for a simple meal of macaroni and cheese, and he wants swordfish. There’s a solution to this dilemma: Eat at Jones.

Located at 700 Chestnut St., Jones restaurant looks like something out of a Brady Bunch episode.

The green shag carpeting, dim lighting and the earth tones of the walls and furniture will send you back in time.

Stephen Starr, the man who brought Alma de Cuba, Pod and The Continental to Philadelphia is the brains behind this retro establishment.

Sit down and relax to the tunes of the DJ while you wait to be served. The atmosphere might make you a little unsure at first, but rest assured that a good meal is on its way.

The dress code is casual, but many customers treat the trip to Jones as a night out on the town.

On Friday and Saturday nights, the dining room is a sea of spaghetti straps and dress shoes. A nice pair of jeans is always acceptable attire.

The menu is as eclectic as the patrons. Entrees run anywhere from $7 to $22, depending on taste and budget. A two-person meal (including dessert) can run under $25. Jones’ menu is so diverse, one can enjoy a different meal with every visit.

In addition to the usual lunch and dinner dishes, Jones also offers a large brunch menu on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Unlike many restaurants, there’s only a short wait for a seat. Though the tables are close together, it makes the restaurant seem cozy.

The fireplace in the middle of the room doesn’t hurt either.

The next time you have to pick the restaurant, give Jones a try. Even if the cuisine does not amaze you, the experience will make the trip worthwhile.
