Bloodsucker blames Rice, Aaliyah for Murder
Web site www.scotsman.com reports Allan Menzies, a 22 year-old Scotland native, was given a life sentence last week for murdering and then eating part of a friend.
Using knives and a hammer, Menzies inflicted an estimated ten blows to the head and some 42 stab wounds to 21-year-old Thomas McKendrick.
He proceeded to eat part of his skull before burying him in the nearby woods.
And the cement the diagnosed psychopath and “vivid fantasist” used to create a foundation for his case? Over 100 viewings of Queen of the Damned, the Anne Rice novel-turned-film that starred late R&B songstress Aaliyah.
During the trial, Menzies spoke of numerous visits from Akasha, the title character of Queen, and her efforts to strike a deal for his immortality.
Neither Rice nor film distributor Warner Bros. were named in legal proceedings. Judge’s ruling dictated that Menzies would not be eligible for parole for 18 years.
Emma Thompson held ‘Prisoner’
Oscar-winning Brit actress Emma Thompson has joined the cast of the third Harry Potter installment, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. E! Online says Thompson will play a Divination expert (a fortuneteller with “questionable” predictions).
Although Azkaban won’t hit theaters until June 2004, the fourth installment (still in pre-production) sees much more of Thompson’s character.
No statement has been made of her continuation with the franchise, but executive producer and former Potter director Chris Columbus is “thrilled” to have her on board. To Hogwarts!
Kidman sucks Ferrell into TV
Columbia Pictures announced that SNL vet Will Ferrell will play Darren Stevens in the studio’s update of the 1960’s sitcom smash Bewitched.
Remake-queen du jour Nicole Kidman will star as Samantha, the witch who weds a mortal and makes nose twitching adorable.
Kidman is also slated to star in an update of the 70’s cult hit The Stepford Wives with Kim Basinger and Joan Cusack.
Talk about…
Absentee hip-hop siren Kelis has recently released the new single, “Milkshake.” The girl-you-so-nasty track is burning up radio, trumpeting the release of her second U.S. album, Tasty.
Engaged to Nas and produced heavily by The Neptunes, MTV.com says the second effort from Kelis showcases a more “pensive” side.
With lyrics like “My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard/ and they’re like, it’s better than yours / Damn right, it’s better than yours,” this lady can offer all the Tasty treats she wants when the album hits stores Dec. 9.
