Temple Student Government’s General Assembly approved a motion to remove Allocations Chair Jamie Shamrock from office on Monday. One General Assembly member opposed the resolution and eight abstained from voting.
Dean of Students James Fitzsimmons unveiled plans for a $30 million addition to the Student Assistance Center. The addition is expected to be completed by spring 2005 and will include a cinema with a seating capacity of 150, a nightclub, game room and new offices for student organizations.
Meanwhile, TSG’s guest on Monday was former Temple graduate Juan Perez. Perez talked about his work with Southern Home Services, an organization committed to social work and helping underprivileged youth in the community.
Southern Home Services is currently looking for mentors, to spend two hours with one child once a week. These mentors will “establish a relationship with the child while giving him or her homework assistance,” Perez said.
In addition, TSG president Brian Carter announced there would be a follow-up meeting to establish a Black Student Union at Temple. Anyone interested is encouraged to contact Carter in TSG’s office in room 230 of the student center.
