A Life Once Lost emerged from the cracks of Philadelphia’s underground metal scene back in 1999. They have stood out from the city’s underworld of heavy metal because they take today’s aggressive sound and combine it with customary metal methods. They’ve blown Philadelphia fans out of the city sewers with their brutal high energy shows at the Trocadero and the First Unitarian Church.

The band knows where to have a good time in their hometown. The following is lead vocalist Bob Meadows’ top Philly picks on where to eat, which sports teams to watch and where he goes to get the best cheesesteak in town.

TN: What is your favorite restaurant?

Bob: I like Jour Café. They have vegan friendly items there. It’s more of like a soul food place. The food is just amazing there. It is very reasonably priced and it’s never too expensive. The service is excellent and it’s just a really friendly atmosphere.

TN: Best bar in the city?

Bob: I like Pounders, it is pretty cheap. The Pontiac Bar is really cool, the bartenders are really nice. Really any place that has a really good bourbon selection I’ll go too.

TN: Your favorite place to see a concert?

Bob: The First Unitarian Church.

TN: What’s your favorite store?

Bob: I like to buy vinyl, so any place with a decent vinyl selection. Repo Records, Spaceboy, the Philadelphia Record Exchange … yeah, so I’m more of a record collector.

TN: The worst place you ever went to?

Bob: I went to that place Mad Max over in University City. The service was the worst service I ever had. The drinks were terrible, and the overall layout of the place … I wasn’t into. I felt that everyone was sitting on top of each other. The only good thing about the evening was the food, it was excellent. If I ever go back there I would just get take out.

TN: Favorite place to get a cheesesteak?

Bob: Surprisingly enough there’s that restaurant Giano’s Grill. They make real cheesesteaks and they are just piled up, and the meat is just incredible. It’s just a huge, tasty sandwich.

TN: What is your favorite city sports team, the Eagles, Phillies, 76ers or the Flyers?

Bob: I’m actually a Philadelphia Wings fan. They are just an underrated team. When you go there it’s always exciting even it if they lose. There’s hits, there’s dudes clobbering each other, pegging balls at each other. Wings fans are the rowdiest fans in Philly by far. They make Sixers fans look like [wimps].

TN: Who is your favorite Philly legend, Ben Franklin or Rocky Balboa?

Bob: Rocky. He is the underdog. Obviously he had a very rough life and had to work hard to get there. Kind of like how we are as a band. Get no respect, no one respects you, and obviously people turn there backs on you when you try something different and interesting. Maybe eventually we’ll be world champs of metal.
