TUCHRD RECEIVES MILLIONS IN GRANTS
Temple University Center for Human Research Development and Education received $41 million from the Office of Education Research and Improvement in the U.S. Department of Education.
The money will be used to continue funding the Laboratory for Student Success. The purpose is to revitalize and reform education.
Also receiving funding is the Mid-Atlantic Regional Technology in Education Consortium whose goal is to bring regional students into the 21st century by improving their proficiency with technology.
TUCRHDE will use the third award to boost its aid to schools using the Community for Learning model of school reform.
AMBLER CELEBRATES 40 YEARS WITH TEMPLE
On Wed. Jan 24, Temple’s Ambler campus began celebrating 40 years as a Temple campus.
The yearlong event named “Campus Roots-University Pride”, started at 12:30 p.m. with several of the campus’s past deans returning to the campus for the anniversary.
Among them was the Temple Ambler’s first dean, Eugene Udell who served for 20 years.
“There were 60 students when I started at Ambler and about 600 when I left,” Udell said.
Future events include a celebration for graduates of the Pennsylvania School of Horticulture for Women on Fri., March 23. The PSHW is turning 90 years old.
The creation of time capsule will take place sometime this year as well as well as a fall gala/banquet.
RESPECT WEEK KICKS OFF THIS FRIDAY
In hopes of uniting students, faculty and staff, the Committee on Non-Violence is running a number of events whose purpose is to emphasize the “importance of a positive, peaceful and respectful climate for learning.”
The weeklong event starts Friday with a Benefit Dance Part in McGonigle Hall from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Following that will be a Tip-off celebration in the Liacouras Center at noon.
Monday Tuttleman will host a reception at 3 p.m. and TSG forum at 4:30. The next day a Respect Carnival will be held in Tuttleman from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a movie showing of Gandhi in room 101. Then SAC 302 will hold an invitation-only Students Against Violence meeting from 7 to 9 p.m.
Wednesday will be Faculty and Staff Dress Down with proceeds going to North Central Philadelphia Victims Services. Another SAV meeting will be held in SAC 302 from 10:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.
On Thursday Verbal Judo will be held in the JPH Dining Center and the Social Lounge at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. respectively. Gandhi will again be shown in Tuttleman 101. White Hall and Temple Towers will host “Respect: Making It Real in Your TU Residence Hall” at 7:30 p.m.
Respect Week closes at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Liacouras Center with the Woman’s Basketball game vs. St. Joe’s.
