Nobody will steal Dawn Staley from Temple any time soon.
Staley, a Philadelphia native and former WNBA All-Star, reached an agreement on a six-year contract extension to remain the women’s basketball coach, Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw announced Thursday. The deal locks up Staley until the conclusion of the 2012-2013 season.
Details outside the extension’s length were not disclosed.
Her previous contract was scheduled to expire in July. Staley’s re-signing came at an appropriate time, as other schools – including Louisiana State, Florida and Texas – are looking to either fill their coaching vacancies or make a final decision on their top job.
Staley, 37, has compiled a 151-67 record during her seven seasons on the Owls’ sideline. She has led the Owls to four Atlantic Ten Conference Championships and five NCAA Tournament appearances.
