Poppy-punk to the tune of lost and broken hearts is certainly nothing groundbreaking, but a solid effort nonetheless has been put forth by New Jersey
natives Midtown.
Their second full-length, fittingly titled Living Well is the Best Revenge, offers 11 tracks rooted in emotional therapy and be-true-to-yourself attitude.
An obvious Millencolin influence in the vocals is apparent throughout, especially in the high-energy album opener “Become What You Hate” and “You Should Know,” a song stressing the positives of love.
Comparisons can also be made with New Found Glory (“Still Trying” and “Like A Movie”) and Saves The Day (“Get It Together” and “In The Songs”).
Fans of those bands, but not the large crowds and venues should look into substituting them with Midtown, or at least until Y-100 picks them up.
Midtown play the Troc on Friday, Sept. 13 with Taking Back Sunday. Tickets are $12.
